Did Manchester United dodge a £30.4m bullet?

Ander HerreraManchester United fans will be all too aware that their recent defeat against Everton was only the last in a long line of disappointments. Indeed, this season seems to have been made up of blunder after blunder.

But the fun really began in the summer, when we first got to see David Moyes attempt to work his magic in the transfer window.

What was more entertaining: his pursuit of Thiago Alcantara, or his attempt to snap up Cesc Fabregas?

Thiago flirted with the idea of moving to Old Trafford before eventually deciding to join-up with his ex-Boss, Pep Guardiola over at Bayern Munich. Fabregas didn’t even pay Moyes the courtesy of pretending to be interested.

The Barcelona midfielder has strong Arsenal connections and a real desire to make a name for himself at the Nou Camp. He was never going to trade his current position at his boyhood club for a chance to play in a David Moyes side.

Having failed to attract any creative types, Moyes instead opted to sign his former Everton charge, Marouane Fellaini. It was almost as though he knew that he had to sign somebody, so he decided to sign whoever was available.

But we haven’t even got to the most bizarre story of Manchester United’s summer yet. Remember Ander Herrera? That’s right, he’s the Athletic Bilbao midfielder who attracted bids from imposters claiming to represent the Red Devils on deadline day. It was a laughable situation.

It left fans wondering how interested Manchester United were in signing Herrera. It also begs the question: should David Moyes attempt to right the wrongs of the summer by going back in for him this January?

The player himself recently spoke about the rumours. Check out these quotes: “I appreciate both Manchester United’s interest in me and the fact that I am considered so important to Athletic that they did not accept any bid for me. That means that Athletic values me above money and trust in me more than money for our current project.

I’m right where I want to be. I’m not a player who wants to change teams, I’ve taken root at Athletic and it is the perfect place for me to be.” (Source: The Mirror)

It looks like he wont be heading to Old Trafford any time soon. Looking at his stats, however, I can’t say that I’m all that disappointed. The reports suggest that he’s out of form. It’s been a slow start to the season for the Spaniard, who hasn’t always found his way into the starting line up for Bilbao.

That sounds like a lot of United’s current midfield crop. David Moyes needs to start looking at other more effective individuals. Then he needs to start figuring out how he’s going to sell Manchester United to them.

One thing’s for sure: he needs to do a better job than he did last summer.

What’s your take? Did Manchester United dodge a bullet when it comes to Ander Herrera?

We don’t need Snjeider he has been done for a while what we need is young talent that can be molded to play the united way and we badly in need of an attack minded manager as you can see no one but Everton players wants to play for Moyes and why is he talking about Strootsman now I remember Moyes saying he was not looking for that kind of player when he was 17 mil now how much you think Roma is going to want for him that’s if they are even willing to let him go another player who wanted united but Moyes only wanted Baines and fellaini both players we don’t need but stuck with one we overpaid for now Bruno Gomes is staying in Brazil a player who SAF wanted and a player who wants united and let me take a guess Moyes is going to try sign him when he is much more expensive this Moyes guy got no idea what he is doing just look at his united resume
