Mbaye NiangArsenal are slap bang in the middle of what’s likely to be the toughest month of their season. The games are coming thick and fast, the opposition is top class and the Gunners squad seems to be getting thinner and thinner.

As it stands, Arsenal haven’t weathered the storm particularly well. Defeats to both Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea (results which book-ended a hard fought victory over Crystal Palace) will have critics questioning the Gunners’ title-challenging credentials.

If Arsene Wenger does think he can challenge for the Premier League title this season, then the Capital One Cup could well be considered expendable. But that begs the question: why did Wenger play such a strong side?

As for the loss against Borussia Dortmund game, it’s put Arsenal in a very awkward position indeed.

The hope will be that things pick up over the next couple of weeks, but I’m sure most fans will be waiting with baited breath until the January transfer window.

After all, Arsene Wenger’s squad is seriously low on options. Upfront the Gunners can currently choose between Olivier Giroud and Nicklas Bendtner. One of these strikers is world class, the other is a world class loon. Can you guess which one is which?

Signing a fresh pair of legs to provide Olivier Giroud is now an absolute necessity. Silverware may depend on it.

According to Italian sources (via The Sun), Arsenal are currently chasing AC Milan centre forward, M’Baye Niang.

The 18-year-old Frenchman has previously had a trial at Arsenal, who opted not sign him at the time. Instead he moved to Milan and enjoyed a good first season with the Serie A side.

But this year Mario Balotelli is very much top dog. There are limited opportunities for Niang, who is thought to be weighing up his options.

It’s thought that a £6m bid would be enough to tempt Milan to sell. As it’s not a massive investment, I can’t help but feel that Arsenal should be interested.

Yes, the Gunners would still need to sign a world-class, ready made striker, but there’s something to be said for strength in numbers. Niang would provide the competition that Nicklas Bendtner just isn’t able to.

As a second, or even a third choice striker, he’d be a great option.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal shell out £6m for M’Baye Niang?

Niang might be a good investment for the future but we already bought Sanogo. We don’t need an unproven young striker especially if we’re still at the near top come January. What we will need is a world class forward with plenty of vast experience at the highest of the order. How we will get one and for the right price considering it will be January well that’s another issue.

Yeah we already got Sanogo and Cambell. Why would we need to buy an unproven player?
