Why Manchester United should chase ‘the next Luka Modric’:

Karol LinettyIt was great to see that Manchester United can still turn it on when it’s required of them. United scored 3 goals in 13 minutes during the 3-1 victory over Fulham at the weekend. It was probably the best period of play that United have had this entire season.

The entire forward line-up looked hungry, motivated and effective. Once those three goals had been hammered home (by Antonio Valencia, Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney), United were able to take their foot off the gas and see the game out.

As it happens, the victory over Fulham was United’s fourth win in a row. During the week they smashed Norwich City 4-0 (City have since made that result look a little less impressive), and the week before that they beat Stoke 3-2 and Real Sociedad 1-0.

The signs are there that David Moyes has begun to steady the ship. A period of slightly easier games seems to have come at the right time and the Manchester United boss is eeking out the results he needs.

This will give the club the confidence it needs to improve over the course of the season. I expect them to get better and better.

And by the time the January transfer window rolls by, who knows? Maybe they’ll have pulled themselves back into contention. They may be 8 points behind League leaders Arsenal, but that lead’s not insurmountable.

Everything depends on what David Moyes does in the transfer window. I’d personally like to see Moyes inject some youth into this squad. Players like Rio Ferdinand, Patrice Evra and Ryan Giggs are starting to provide diminishing returns.

The future lies with players like Adnan Januzaj and Wilfried Zaha. If Moyes adds to the ranks, he’ll be building a very bright future indeed. Most importantly, he’ll be building a team in his image, rather than the image of Sir Alex Ferguson.

According to The Mirror, Manchester United are leading the chase for Poland prodigy, Karol Linetty. The man’s been dubbed ‘the next Luka Modric’ and Polish club side Lech Poznan rate him very highly indeed.

He’s got a small frame, but he’s able to use his technical ability to buy himself time and space on the ball, he’s smart and he passes the ball about quickly and accurately. He’s only 18-years-old, but it’s clear he’s got bags of potential.

He won’t provide an immediate answer to all of Manchester United’s midfield issues. But since he’s valued at £4m, he won’t be a costly gamble.

What’s your take? Should David Moyes turn to youth during the January transfer window?
