Should Manchester United move in for this £17m wing-wizard?

Angel Di MariaWhilst a lot of the attention has been on Manchester United’s central midfielders, I think it’s fair to say that David Moyes should also be looking at his wingers when the transfer window re-opens.

I won’t deny that the Red Devils need to sign a creative midfielder who can link up with the likes of Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney better. They need somebody who can pick out gaps between defenders and start making United’s high possession statistics count for something.

A new, inventive, central midfielder should be at the top of Moyes’ wish-list. But signing a new winger could also help solve some of United’s creativity problems.

I’m just not sure that the current crop of wingers is doing enough. Antonio Valencia has been better this season, but he’s still not quite reached the level he was at two seasons ago. His strength, pace and direct attacking nature are admirable, but there’s still not enough end product.

The same’s true of Nani (I’m not even sure why he’s still at Old Trafford?), Shinji Kagawa (who is a converted central midfielder) and Wilfried Zaha who is too young and too raw. David Moyes has a lot of options to chose from, but none of them seem particularly viable. Maybe it’s time to freshen things up a bit?

Interestingly enough, Manchester United were recently linked to Real Madrid’s Angel Di Maria. The Argentinian wing-wizard is a sensational footballer and he’d make for a fantastic addition to this diminished United side.

He’s a crafty footballer, with great feet, plenty of pace and a stinging cross. He’s also renowned for his ability to provide assists for his team-mates. Since arriving at the Bernabeu in 2010, he’s provided 54 assists.

I was surprised to see The Star suggest that Di Maria could be available for just £17m. Yes, that’s a lot of money, but it’s not too bad considering his reputation and his importance within the Real Madrid set-up.

With Gareth Bale strutting his stuff at the Bernabeu, Di Maria may well be weighing up his future. He’s sure to get less and less game time in the future and could well fancy a move to a top club like Manchester United. If David Moyes is really interested, he could be there for the taking.

What’s your take? Should Manchester United swoop in for this Argentinian ace?
