Should Liverpool take on Arsenal to sign this £20m man?

|

Diego CostaWhilst there will be those who argue with the following claim, I think it’s fair to say that Liverpool have the two best strikers in the Premier League.

There’s a reason why Brendan Rodger’s side has done so well this season. Well, actually, there are two reasons — their names are Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez.

Daniel Sturridge’s form since arriving in January has been spectacular. With 21 goals in 28 performances, I think it’s fair to say that he’s been turning a few heads. If he keeps this level of performance up, he’s fast going to become a fan favourite (if he isn’t already).

Then there’s Luis Suarez, who’s also no slouch. Despite missing a big swathe of the season due to his ten game ban, he’s already managed to find the back of the net 8 times. The chomp-happy Uruguayan keeps getting better and is probably the finest out-and-out striker in the world.

Indeed, only Manchester United pairing Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie hold a candle to Liverpool’s gruesome twosome. With this in mind, I was a little surprised to read that Brendan Rodgers is considering bringing somebody else in.

Check out this story, courtesy of The Star, which claims that Liverpool are still in the running to sign Atletico Madrid star, Diego Costa. That’s despite the fact that the Brazilian has previously declared his happiness at his current club.

Unfortunately for the Reds, it won’t all be smooth sailing. It’s thought that Liverpool, Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund could on the hunt for him during the January transfer window. This isn’t all that surprising really. Arsenal and Chelsea both need to sign a striker. Once Dortmund lose Robert Lewandowski, they’ll also be on the chase.

There’s a reason why Costa has attracted so much attention. He’s scored 16 goals in 17 appearances this season. That’s a Liverpool striker-esque return. It’s also the reason why he’s now worth every penny of his £20m release clause.

If Liverpool were to sign Diego Costa it would doubtless spark further discussion about Luis Suarez’s future. It could well mean that the Uruguayan is on the way out, but at least it would show that Rodgers is willing to be proactive.

£20m is a lot of money, but for this man, I’d say it’d be worth it.

What’s your take? Should the Reds battle it out with Chelsea and Arsenal to sign Diego Costa?

As a Liverpool fan I must admit I am happy with the comments regarding the SAS but we have to keep things in perspective. Let us start saying saying how good they are once they achieve top 4 or above and then next season hopefully when both(yes both) of them are terrorising defences across Europe. We can’t give them too much praise just yet and to say they are the best just now is premature as Rooney and Van Persie are up there with the best in the world when it comes to strike forces and do not think that Aguero and Negredo are not going to get better because they are. Let us just hope that LFC bring in a couple of signings in January who are on the same level as the SAS and that top 4 is just the beginning.
