Should Liverpool sanction this Raheem Sterling deal?

raheem-sterlingAfter the disappointment of the comprehensive loss at the hands of Arsenal a week or so back, last weekend’s Premier League action would have been very enjoyable for Liverpool fans indeed.

They watched as the clubs around them slipped up, dropped points and fell out of contention. Manchester City, Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal all struggled over the weekend and Liverpool were able to capitalize. What’s more, Brendan Rodgers’ team put in another impressive performance, turning over a lackluster Fulham side and winning the game 4-0.

But that defeat against Arsenal still lingers in the memory. I can’t help but feel that Brendan Rodgers still needs to strengthen this Liverpool side if he hopes to compete this season. As such, I was disappointed to read that he’s considering letting one of his best young players go.

According to The Mirror, Swansea City are keen to sign Liverpool prodigy Raheem Sterling. Whilst it would be a great opportunity for Sterling to get some game time under his belt, I still can’t see why the Reds would let Sterling leave, even if only on a temporary basis.

After all, the Liverpool midfield isn’t exactly bursting with quality options. Beyond a few choice individuals, the Reds seem to lack a bit of cut and thrust in this area.

Whilst Sterling’s form has dipped over the last six-or-so months, he’s still an exciting young talent. What’s more he provides Liverpool with that element of unpredictability. Will he cut in? Will he take his man on? Will he try to fire in a cross?

He’s difficult to read, acts fast and is easily capable of bamboozling opponents. This makes him a great option to come off the bench and change games. He may only be young, but no Premier League defender is going to relish the thought of Sterling running at them.

There’s a reason why the Swans are interested in him: he’s a top player. Now I don’t expect him to become a regular first teamer (not this season, any way), but there is an important role for him to play here. I only hope that he trusts in Brendan Rodger’s judgement, remains patient and takes his opportunities as and when they arrive.

Let’s hope that the club turns down any advances from rival clubs.

What’s your take? Should Liverpool consider sending Raheem Sterling out on loan?

The kid needs games, not to warm our bench.

At this stage in his career he’s providing no goals or assists and cannot be relied on to change a game.

100% behind letting him go out on loan to develop.

Jordan Ibe is a better prospect in my opinion. I think sending Sterling out to get first team action whilst giving Ibe a taste of the first team squad is a great idea. Sterling will mature and progress, then we can see just how good he can be.

Absolutely agree with the idea of Sterling going on loan, and no better pale than Swansea given the style of football is similar to that of our own. A small part of me also wishes that Shelvey was sent out on loan too as when he matures he will be a quality player. With Sterling getting game time it would improve him, and at the same time let the likes of Alberto have more of a chance in coming on and proving himself.
