Can Liverpool keep Luis Suarez?

Luis SuarezThroughout his time at Anfield, Luis Suarez has proven to be remarkably difficult to manage. It’s a shame that talent so often has to come with such a long-list of qualifiers.

As it is, Luis Suarez is one of the most talented footballers in the world, but his list of defects is extensive. For a start, his moral compass is completely wonky.

If he’s not embroiled in a racism saga, or chomping into a fellow professional’s arm, he’s turning Liverpool fans against him by trying to engineer a move away from the club.

The Reds have backed Suarez through thick and thin. Naturally, it was disappointing to see him try and force moves to Real Madrid and Arsenal last summer. The trouble now, is that it won’t stop here. I fully expect there’ll be plenty more bumps in Suarez’s Liverpool future.

It’s worth asking the question: is Luis likely to be here next year? If not, how do Liverpool replace him.

Luckily, Liverpool aren’t oblivious to the situation. Check out these quotes from the Reds’ main man, Steven Gerrard:

“Luis is in good form. The team are playing well, so January won’t be a problem. But come the summer, I think depending how Liverpool have done will determine what goes through Luis’ mind. His goals, his performances and his form will be the key to whether we finish in the top four.” (Source: The Mirror)

There’s a real danger that if Liverpool fail to break back into the Champions League, they’ll lose Luis Suarez. And if that were to happen and he’s not adequately replaced, the Reds will lose all the momentum they have stocked up.

Replacing Luis Suarez will be damn near impossible. This makes finishing in the top four  essential.

Liverpool have started the season well, but the recent game against Arsenal was a showcase the weaknesses that still exist in this side. The defence isn’t as strong as it used to be and the midfield lacks a real creative engine.

Philippe Coutinho is on his way, but isn’t quite there yet. As such, the best way to keep Suarez may be to reach out into the January transfer window and improve the squad.

Yes, Brendan has already spent a lot, but it’s clear that there’s more work to do if he wants to go all the way this season. Fingers crossed he’s ready for the challenge!

Of course they will aim to improve the squad to help with at least a fourth place finish to keep Suarez. It seems unlikely he will move in January so you are scraping this up either too late or too early.

As for “Brendan has already spent a lot”. What utter rubbish.

Liverpool are aiming to jump 3 places from last season, beyond and into an elite spending group.

Between them, Chelsea. City and Spurs spent £250 million during the summer.

Oh, and Liverpool’s “lack of creative engine”, or Gerrard, as he is usually known, is top of the assists chart and currently creating the most chances in the league.

Finally, you believe Coutinho is “on his way [to being creative] but isn’t quite there yet”.

      Seriously?
