Why it’s time for Liverpool to cash-in on Luis Suarez:

Luis SuarezAfter dishing out some pretty harsh words for Luis Suarez during the summer, Brendan Rodgers has been full of praise for the Uruguayan upon his return to action.

This, perhaps, is unsurprising. After all, Suarez spent most of the summer agitating for a move away from Liverpool. Given that he’s far and away the club’s best player, it’s little wonder that Rodgers reacted badly.

It’s worth noting that most of his comments were either damage control (i.e. trying to save Suarez’s reputation) or an attempt to place Liverpool back in control of the situation (something he did pretty well, actually).

Now that Suarez is playing football for Liverpool again, Brendan is clearly trying to make him feel wanted and appreciated. Check out these quotes:

“With Luis, he demands the best from himself and his team-mates at all times. We saw that against Crystal Palace, even right at the end when the game was won.”

“There was a moment in the first half where he chased back on the left and won the ball too. There is no doubting his commitment, and there is no doubting he will always have that desire at all times. You see his work-rate and his demand for a better ball into the box, and that’s what we want.” (Source: The Mirror)

It’s all a bit lovey-dovey, ain’t it? So given these comments and the fact that Suarez has already re-established himself as Liverpool’s most important player, what are we to make of The Mirror‘s claim that the Reds are starting to prepare for life without him?

The article suggests that Luis remains determined to leave Anfield and join a club that’s better capable of competing for silverware (which is odd as Liverpool are currently joint top of the Premier League table). It’s also hinted that Liverpool could let him go if the right offer comes in.

Whilst it would be difficult to see him go, it might be the best thing for the club. With the money the club would receive for him, Liverpool would be able to afford two or three world-class players. The move could well transform the club. Brendan would certainly be able to build a better rounded side.

If Real Madrid come in (rather than another Premier League side like Arsenal) with a big-money offer, then the Reds should sell. It’s time to start recruiting players who want to be at Liverpool!

What’s your take? Is it time to wave goodbye to Luis Suarez?
