Should Spurs move in for Manchester United’s forgotten man?

Javier HernandezJavier Hernandez deserves better. He’s been a fantastic servant for Manchester United and really doesn’t get the game time he needs to push his career upwards and on-wards.

The Mexican International should be playing week-in and week-out. He certainly shouldn’t be spending most of his time on the bench, biding his time until he gets the odd opportunity to impress.

But let’s face it: Hernandez has Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie as competition at Manchester United and he’s never likely to get ahead of them in the pecking order. Those two footballers are among the best strikers in the world.

Hernandez has started just two games this season. One of them was Manchester United’s victory over Liverpool in the League Cup (in which he scored the winner) and the other was United’s defeat against West Brom (oops!). I really wouldn’t blame him if he was beginning to feel antsy.

The player recently spoke about his future: “I strive for that [to start more games]. I am working towards that – earning a spot as a starter. I know that my performance on the pitch will allow me to achieve that goal someday either here [in Manchester] or elsewhere for any other club.

I am going on four years here [at Manchester United] and really, like I have always said, I am happy to be able to play for one of the best clubs in the world, doing my best every single day to earn more minutes on the pitch.” (Source: The Mirror)

Little Pea has always been highly respectful of Manchester United and seems to have genuine affection for the club. But it’s interesting to hear him mention that he may achieve his goals at another club.

Whilst these may serve as words of warning for David Moyes and co., they should also serve as temptation for clubs like Tottenham, who are in desperate need of another striker.

Andre Villas-Boas may have just shelled out £26m on Roberto Soldado, but it’s my feeling that they could use somebody a little more mobile – somebody like Javier Hernandez.

Given his technical ability, his pace, and his positioning, I’d argue that Hernandez is one of world football’s most underrated strikers. His goal-scoring record is nothing to sniff at either.

Manchester United would be foolish to let him go, but it’s fair to say that he’d be a real asset for Spurs. If he continues to sit on the bench, then this deal could happen yet!

What’s your take? Could Chicharito really end up at White Hart Lane?

I do like the idea of him Soldado and Lamela forming an fluid front 3 of a 4-3-3 formation – it would give us a very different formation option to 4-4-2 and 4-2-3-1 formations we use at the moment.
