Should Manchester United swoop in for this Ligue 1 sensation?

Remy CabellaA lot of young French players end up getting compared to Zinedine Zidane. If you’ve got a half-decent touch, can run with the ball and exude a Gallic air, it seems you’ll be unable to escape comparisons to Zizou.

One of the latest players to earn the moniker, ‘the new Zidane’, is Montpellier’s young midfield talent, Remy Cabella.

You only need to look at Cabella’s stats this season to see what a compelling player he is. After all, he’s scored five goals and notched two assists in just eight matches. That’s a fantastic return.

The young Frenchman has built upon his form last season, which was generally excellent but sometimes lacked end product. It seems that he’s now ready for the big time and may fancy a move to a top club.

As luck would have it, the 23-year-old has recently been linked to both Arsenal and Manchester United. (Source: The Star)

Whilst the player may fancy a move to Arsenal, where he’d be able to link up with former Montpellier team-mate Olivier Giroud and French managerial mastermind, Arsene Wenger, he may actually be a better fit for Manchester United.

Arsenal’s midfield is currently bursting with creative talent. They really don’t need to sign Remy Cabella and I’m not convinced he’d get game time at the Emirates.

Manchester United on the other hand, desperately need to sign somebody with an ounce of creative talent. There’s such a surplus in this area, that a player like Cabella is already beginning to look like United’s holy grail.

At the very least, a player with the passing range, technical ability and composure of Remy Cabella would help put Manchester United in a position where they could challenge for silverware this season. As things currently stand, I’m not sure that’s possible.

Of course, a 23-year-old isn’t going to fully fix all of Manchester United’s problems. But if David Moyes places a focus on youth and develops players like Adnan Januzaj and Wilfried Zaha (and potentially Remy Cabella!), then there is hope for the future.

It may not be the immediate, instant response that fans are hoping for, but it could be exactly what the club needs in the long-term.

Either way, it’ll be interesting to see what David Moyes does. Action is needed and it’s needed soon!

What’s your take? Should Manchester United be looking at Remy Cabella?
