Should Liverpool move in for this Championship sensation?

Will HughesWhilst I was pleased to see Brendan Rodgers pursue players who would be able to have a more immediate impact at Liverpool during the summer, I hope he doesn’t abandon his youth policy entirely.

The Reds are looking strong this season, but if they are to secure lasting success, Brendan will need to bring in players who will have a role to play for many years to come. Liverpool need more gifted young things to move to Anfield, fall in love with the club and the fans and work their way into the first team.

Not that there aren’t plenty of bright young sparks already at Anfield. Players like Philippe Coutinho and Raheem Sterling will have a big future at the club.

But there’s always more the club can do in this regard. I’d like to see Liverpool follow the Arsenal model. When times are tough financially, turn to youth and build for the future.

Arsenal are currently reaping the benefits and Liverpool could be too.

Steven Gerrard won’t be around forever. I’d say it’s about time for Brendan Rodgers to start hunting down a long term replacement.

I’d personally like to see Liverpool enter the race for Championship sensation, Will Hughes.

There’s a reason why the Derby County star has been attracting attention from top clubs like Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United. The 18-year-old models his game on the likes of Andres Iniesta and Xavi. He’s got great technical ability for a young player, can pass the ball neatly, dribble and beat his man.

He’s already nabbed three goals and two assists this season.

He’s an exciting player to watch and could well develop into something rather special. I can’t help but hope that he joins Liverpool’s ranks of talented young players.

According to The Star, his manager Steve McClaren is resigned to te fact that it’ll be difficult to keep hold of Will Hughes. It’s even suggested that Liverpool will loan Andre Wisdom to Derby as a bargaining chip to help bring Hughes to Anfield.

That’s some pretty impressive forward planning if it’s true. I’m a big fan of the manner in which Brendan Rodgers has done his transfer business and this looks like another step in the right direction.

Let’s hope that he can see off the advances of Arsenal and the two Manchester teams and get his man.

What’s your take? Would Will Hughes be a good addition for this Liverpool side?
