Should Arsenal take a pop on this ace £10m Brazilian playmaker?

JorginhoThings were going swimmingly for Arsenal, but there’s a good chance that the defeat to Borussia Dortmund will send the club crashing back down to earth.

Whilst a 4-1 victory over Norwich City can put wind in your sales, I think it’s fair to say that Arsenal hadn’t really taken on any big teams (barring perhaps Tottenham and Napoli) until last Tuesday.

Borussia Dortmund represented the biggest challenge of Arsenal’s season yet and unfortunately Arsene Wenger’s team couldn’t rise to the occasion. I’m sure fans will be hoping that this isn’t the way of things to come.

But the tough games are about to come thick and fast. Over the next month or so, I think we’ll get a good idea of whether Arsenal can be genuine title contenders this year.

As things currently stand, I’m not sure they’re quite ready. This Arsenal squad just doesn’t run deep enough. Buying Mesut Ozil was a big step forward for the Gunners, but there’s still a lot of work to be done if Arsene Wenger wants to complete the transformation of his team.

Arsenal are currently strongest in the centre of the pitch, so it’s a little strange to see The Star link them to Jorginho, a Brazilian play-maker who has also attracted attention from Liverpool and Chelsea.

The 21-year-old has technical ability to burn, a bag of tricks and an eye for picking out passes. He’s played a key role in taking his newly promoted side, Hellas Verona up to fourth place in Serie A. If he continues to develop at this rate and to exert his influence, there’s sure to be plenty of interest in him.

Yes, Arsenal already have lots of gifted play-makers, but I’m of the firm belief that clubs should always consider signing players who will improve the squad, regardless of their current options. It may have seemed silly to sign Mesut Ozil in the summer, but look how well that’s worked out.

Jorginho could well have the same effect. Besides, with Abou Diaby on his way out and Tomas Rosicky getting on in years, it may be worth bringing somebody else in.

It’s thought that the Brazilian would cost Arsenal approximately £10m. This would mean that Arsene Wenger would still have plenty of money left to dedicate to bringing in a striker.

I certainly wouldn’t complain if he were to make a move to the Emirates.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal move in for Jorginho?
