Remy CabellaFor a young French player, getting linked to Arsenal is like a right of passage. You know you’ve come of age when Arsene Wenger is said to be interested in snapping you up.

The Arsenal boss is an expert when it comes to Ligue 1 and French football in general. He’s also got a good eye for talent and these two qualities have led to him investing in French footballers in a serious way.

The list of players is quite something: Thierry Henry, Patrick Viera, Olivier Giroud, Laurent Koscielny and so on!

And during each transfer window, the Gunners get linked to more and more French youngsters.

The most recent example of this is Montpellier’s talented young star, Remy Cabella.

Remy has earned comparisons to Zinedine Zidane already for his excellent touch, quick feet and dribbling ability.

He’s also got a fine range of passes, a quick footballing brain and the ability to deliver killer balls. Just to round out the 23-year-old’s player profile, you should also know that he’s confident in front of goal. This season he has scored five goals from the centre-of-the-park in eight matches (along with two assists).

It’s always cruel to compare young players to footballing legends like Zidane. It puts undue pressure on their shoulders. But Cabella does look like a top talent and could well blossom into something special.

Best of all, he’s available, for the right price. Check out these quotes from Montpellier manager Jean Fernandez:

“Now, if in the winter transfer window Manchester United offer €18m (£15m) as I have read, he must go. Although that would kill the team, one cannot refuse an offer like that.” (Source: The Star)

It wouldn’t surprise me if Manchester United were interested in him. The Red Devils are suffering from a chronic lack of creativity in their midfield.

But that doesn’t change the fact that the player would be a better fit for Arsenal. Arsene Wenger knows how to help young players on there way to greatness. He’ll also be playing alongside top midfielders like Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla who can help him learn and grow.

There certainly wont be any language barriers.

£15m is a lot of money, but the investment could pay off big time over the coming years. I certainly hope that Arsene Wenger considers this over the January transfer window and is able to beat off any interest from Manchester United.

What’s your take? Is Remy Cabella a better fit for Manchester United or Arsenal?
