Could this crafty £5m striker be just the ticket for Liverpool?

John GuidettiLiverpool’s strong start to their season can largely put down to the strength, determination and ability of their strikers. Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge have both been magnificent thus far this year.

Yes, Luis Suarez has only just returned from a long-term ban (welcome back!), but it’s already clear that he hasn’t lost a bit of what makes him such a special footballer. The man’s touch is sublime, he’s completely unpredictable and he’s a threat in all areas of the pitch.

Daniel Sturridge, on the other hand, has been producing the goods since his arrival back in January. His goal-scoring record of 20 in 26 appearances (I’m writing this before the West Brom game) is brilliant. For somebody who wasn’t given a fair shot at Chelsea, he’s proven to be a revelation.

I’m sure by now, the importance of having fit and in-form strikers hasn’t been lost on Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers. In the past the Reds have had to put up with no-hopers like Andy Carroll, now they’ve got the real deal.

And I hope that Brendan chooses to double down in this regard and keep bringing in top strikers. This could be what the club needs to become title contenders.

This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that Liverpool are considering swooping in this January and plucking up John Guidetti.

The Swedish striker is a footballer with a lot of potential. Unfortunately, he has a contract with Manchester City, a club who seem to like poleaxing the development of young footballers.

Here’s the reason that Liverpool should be interested: In his loan spell with Feyenoord back in 2012, he managed to bag 20 goals in 23 games. At around that time, he started to attract plenty of attention from some big clubs (Monaco and Trabzonspor are still thought to be interested).

Unfortunately, he went through a series of injury difficulties and fell out of the public eye. But he’s now fit as a fiddle and rearing to go. I hope that Liverpool are willing to give him a chance.

The Metro claims that he’d only cost the Reds £5m. That’s a small sum for a player with such big potential. I hope this price-tag has caught Brendan Rodger’s eye and that he gets added to the list of potential January targets.

What’s your take? Could Liverpool use John Guidetti?

  • fredmeek ampah says:

we don’t need any striker we need creative midfielders and a defensive midfielder like nzonzi mariosuarez pastore fernando of porto and maybe salah maxkruse or yarmolenko

I’ve seen this boy & he’s got all the tools to be a great player. Also i think he’d fit into the BR system of play perfectly & have a natural partnership with either of the SAS. Perfect age & the price is just as right so get him in along with Will Hughes, a left footed wide player with real pace & technique, plus Montoya for right back to allow Kelly & Wisdom to focus on their center back duties fully… we’ll then be equipped to attack the top 3 properly.
