Could this £7m Arsenal target be January’s biggest bargain?

1. Bundesliga: Hamburger SV - BV Borussia DortmundArsenal could well find themselves in a spot of bother this January. Just about everybody knows just how badly the Gunners need to sign a striker. As such, I’m sure they’ll be squeezed for every last penny should Arsene Wenger attempt to start negotiating.

We’ve heard talk of Karim Benzema costing £43m. That’s an outrageous price-tag for a player who’s currently behind Olivier Giroud in the French national team. It’s not like he’s having too great a time at the Bernabeu either.

Whilst Arsene Wenger has shown signs of loosening up, I’m not sure he could countenance spending that much on a player whose reputation is dwindling.

But that’s not to say that there aren’t any bargains out there to be had. Indeed, if you believe The Star, there’s the mother of all bargains to be had this January.

They claim that Manchester United, Man City, Chelsea and yes, Arsenal, are all looking to sign Borussia Dortmund’s top striker, Robert Lewandowski. The kicker is that he could be available for as little as £7m.

Relatively speaking, that’s a tiny fee for a player with such a large reputation. Robert Lewandowski is one of the best strikers in Europe. Arsenal saw just how effective he can be when he slotted home the winner against them last Tuesday.

Last season he scored an incredible 36 goals in 49 games. This year he’s already managed to steer home 9 goals in 9 appearances. Spectacular stuff.

Dortmund won’t want to lose him, but his contract is running down and will expire at the end the season. By that stage, they’ll have no choice but to let him go. As such, it’s thought that they’d be willing to let him go for just £7m during the January transfer window.

That’s a little hard to believe. If he’s available for that low a fee, there’s sure to be plenty of competition for his signature.

That doesn’t change the fact that Arsenal should be piling into this free for all. Yes, there will be a whole host of big clubs after his signature. But Arsenal have proven that they’re capable of competing in the transfer market (they did just spend £42.4m on Mesut Ozil after all).

Arsenal need another striker and Robert Lewandowski will likely represent the best value for money in the transfer market. Let’s hope that Arsene Wenger is ready to throw his financial weight around once more.

What’s your take? Can the Gunners compete for Robert Lewandowski? Could he really be available for as little as £7m?

    It’s hard to believe that,
    7mil for a world class striker…
No doubt the bidding will go alot higher than that figure.

Robert,is the caliber of player arsenal needs if we were to win trophy(ies) this season.

My prayer every day is to see Robert Lewandowski line up for Arsenal come January and a defender to support Sagna then a solid defensive midfielder. We don’t need to wait until next season. I get angry with every body around me each time Arsenal loses a match to big teams. Look at what an injury to Flamini has cost us. Flamini’s cover with Ateta in front of him was giving Arsenal all the winnings we’ve got this season. We lost to Dortmund because Flamini was not there, same to Chelsea and struggled with Crystal Palace for the same factor. His cover gives room for Ramsey to roaming around and score goal but he’s not scoring again because the formation changed. Please reinforce Mr. Wenger.

Ill be mega suprised if he isnt at BM next season, if its not there then i cant see him turning down a RM offer. Im sure Mourinho would love to get him as hed be a clinical beast and an ideal Mourinho signing. We all know what happens when che rival ourselves for a player… they end up hitting two birds with one stone by getting said player and hindering ourselves at the same time.
