Stephan El ShaarawySo Arsenal finished the last round of Premier League games two points ahead of the rest of the crowd. They’re currently sitting pretty at the top of table and it’s going it looks like it’s going to take some work to dislodge them.

But the Gunners are about to face a run of games that will likely come to define their season. If they can make it through November without dropping too many points, they’ll be in an extremely strong position. Too many slip ups, however and we’ll be wondering why we ever considered them title challengers in the first place.

Suffice to say, before the January transfer window rolls open, we’ll know  a lot more about this Arsenal squad.

Right now, everybody seems to be going bananas about Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud. Both players seem to have come on leaps and bounds over the last year and have provided the club with the impetus it needs.

Olivier Giroud, in particular, is an integral member of the squad. As Arsenal’s only world class striker, there’s a lot of pressure on his shoulders — luckily, they’re fairly broad.

Giroud is strong, his touch is great and he links up well with Arsenal’s gifted midfielders. He’s also chipped in with goals whenever necessary.

But I’m sure Arsene Wenger recognises what a perilous position his club is in. If Giroud loses form, or gets injured, Arsenal’s options will be limited.

That’s why Arsenal need to sign a striker during the January transfer window, regardless of where they are in the Premier League table. Even if they come up trumps throughout November, this is still necessary.

But who could they bring in?

How about AC Milan’s Stephan El Shaarawy, who’s currently being left out in the cold at the San Siro? Milan are currently favouring Mario Balotelli and as a result, Stephan El Shaarawy just isn’t getting the kind of game time he deserves.

Considering that he only managed to break through last season, it’s disappointing to see his development arrested in this manner. Last season he scored 16 goals and impressed with his slick feet, quick footballing brain and direct attacking outlook.

He’s an extremely exciting player to watch and given his technical ability, he’d fit in well at the Emirates.

Arsenal have already proved that they can compete for top players. Stephan El Shaarawy would certainly be another big step in the right direction.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal swoop in for Stephan El Shaarawy?
