Patrick HerrmannAnybody who saw Arsenal’s majestic performance against Norwich City may well feel that Arsenal have no further work to do on their squad. There’s certainly an argument to suggest that the Gunners are the Premier League’s on form team and that they could well be in line to win some silverware this season.

But that doesn’t necessarily mean that the Gunners should start resting on their laurels and sticking to what they’ve got.

The 4-1 victory over Norwich was a display piece for some of the best football I’ve seen in recent years. Arsenal’s first goal in particular was an outrageous showcase for some sublime one-touch passing that was as crisp and precise as you’d like. Aaron Ramsey’s goal was a fantastic, composed solo effort, with him dragging the ball this way and that in the area before firing home. It reminded me of Samir Nasri’s sensational goal against Fulham some years back now.

With all these superlatives, it would be easy to sit back and grow complacent. But it’s up to Arsene Wenger to keep the momentum up and make sure that his squad is capable of competing. That may mean bringing in another player or two.

One area where Arsenal could be weak, is down the wings. At the moment, the flanks seem to house important players who don’t have home any where else in the squad. That’s where strikers Theo Walcott and Lukas Podolski play. Or central midfielders like Santi Cazorla, Jack Wilshere, Tomas Rosicky, Aaron Ramsey, etc.

But what about bringing in a proper winger, who can carry the fight for Arsenal down the flanks?

What about Borussia Monchengladbach’s wing wizard, Patrick Herrmann?

According to The Metro, Arsenal’s chief scout Steve Rowley has been keeping his eye on the player. It’s also suggested that a bid of around £17m could be enough to force a move through.

That’s a lot of money, but the 22-year-old looks like the real deal. The German youngster, has bags of pace, plenty of tricks up his sleeve and an admirable desire to run at defenders. He’s extremely exciting to watch and would likely fit in well in this Arsenal team.

Whilst the priority at this moment in time for Arsene Wenger should probably be bringing in a striker, I hope he considers Herrmann too.

What’s your take? Should the Gunners give Herrmann a go?
