Could this £12m man be just what Manchester United need?

Wesley SneijderIt’s been clear all season long (and indeed, for the last couple of years), that Manchester United are lacking the spark of creativity in their midfield.

But whilst ex-boss Sir Alex Ferguson was able to wrestle excellent performances out of his players and get the results his club needed, new boss David Moyes hasn’t been able to pick up the slack.

Stepping into Sir Alex’s shoes is no small task. Ferguson already had the player’s respect and they were always willing to play out of their skin for him. Moyes, on the other hand, doesn’t seem to drive the same level of commitment.

In short, he can’t convert decent players into great ones. He certainly hasn’t been able to overcome the squad’s chronic lack of creativity.

Manchester United have suffered as a result. The longer the club avoids dealing properly with the issue, the worse things will get. We’re already at the stage where lesser clubs don’t seem to fear playing United any more. All Premier League teams, regardless of their reputation are turning up on match day thinking that they can pinch a result.

The only way this will change is if Manchester United manage to get back to their winning ways. In turn, this will require signing a world class creative midfielder.

Here, I believe, is where Wesley Sneijder enters the picture. According to The Star, Manchester Untied are preparing a £12m bid for the Dutch International, who is currently plying his trade with Turkish club Galatasaray.

The man has a £13m release clause, but it looks like the United top brass are looking to save themselves some money and go in a bit lower. This is probably a good thing, as it’s Sneijder’s wages that are going to prove most costly.

Still, I can’t help but feel that signing Sneijder would be a massive step in the right direction for Manchester United. We’ve all seen exactly how good the Dutchman is. The accuracy and range of his passing belies belief and his technical ability is up there with the very best.

When he’s on form, he’s a game-winner and he’s capable of producing moments of magic. This is exactly the kind of player Manchester United need. Let’s hope that David Moyes isn’t put off by his wage demands.

What’s your take? Should Manchester United be interested in Wesley Sneijder?
