Why he’s still a ‘must-buy’ for Manchester United this January:

|

Leighton BainesAfter a poor start to the season, Manchester United’s 4-1 defeat at the hands of their arch-rivals, Manchester City, will have fans entering their panic stations.

Things were already bad, but to get so thoroughly out-classed by their fellow title-contenders bodes extremely badly. As things currently stand, it looks like Manchester United are going to struggle this season.

We all knew that it would take a while for United to adjust to life without Sir Alex Ferguson. The great Scot was able to inspire even the most perfunctory player into something special. David Moyes, on the other hand has had a slow start. He certainly isn’t getting the most out of the players he has.

Luckily, Manchester United do have the money to put their problems right in the transfer market. If the Red Devils can make it to the January transfer window without having dropped too many points, make some big signings and win back some confidence, then who knows what they can achieve.

Suffice to say, it’s far too early to write off this season. Let’s just hope David Moyes is a little bit more effective when the transfer window re-opens.

We know that Moyes was keen to sign Leighton Baines during the summer. At one stage, he was attempting to sign the Everton left-back and Marouane Fellaini as part of a double deal. Unfortunately, Moyes could only pull off a deal for the big Belgium.

And now, Everton coach Alan Stubbs has revealed that Baines was keen to head to Old Trafford: “Bainesy was never really an option to leave. The club had dug its heels in but Bainesy had obviously said he’d like to go.” (Source: The Daily Star)

Whilst ‘Bainesy’ is a massive fan favourite at Everton and manages to come up with the goods on a weekly basis, I’m sure he’d find the chance to join a club that competes for the Premier League title appealing.

He may have noted United’s slow start to the season, but that won’t deter him from joining a club with a big history, a strong squad and a big budget. The chance to join-up with David Moyes once more may also hold some appeal.

He’d fit in well at Manchester United, strengthen the squad significantly and could be the burst of inspiration the club needs.

Everton won’t let him go for cheap, but if the player does want to leave, the two clubs should be able to come to a fair deal. Let’s just hope that David Moyes doesn’t leave this one until deadline day.

What’s your take? Should Manchester United move in for Leighton Baines?

I agree bainesis too old and too expensive ,alI wan,t to see is our youngsters given a chance, on pre season tour they stood out for all the right reasons and their hunger to play , give them a few games and it will wake our senior players up its the utd way, not worried about big names coming, I,ve always preferred to see our kids come through
