Olivier Giroud must feel like a kid in a candy store. Following on from Arsenal’s deadline day antics, the French striker now has two of the world’s best creative midfielders, Santi Cazorla and Mesut Ozil supplying him with ammunition this season.
Add to this the creative potential of players like Jack Wilshere, Mikel Arteta, Aaron Ramsey and Theo Walcott and it’s clear that Giroud will be supplied with opportunity after opportunity this year. In a way, that may take the pressure off him. He will now that if he spurns a chance, another one will soon present itself to him.
If it’s an exciting time for Olivier Giroud, it’s also an exciting time for Arsenal fans, who can’t wait to see their new German midfielder take to the pitch in their shirt.
With (arguably) the best midfield in the Premier League, it’s hard not to feel optimistic about what the Gunners can achieve this year. With this in mind, I think it’s finally time to have the conversation: are Arsenal ready to be title contenders?
They started the season poorly with a 3-1 home defeat to Aston Villa, but since that day they’ve been formidable. The capper was a 1-0 victory over North London rivals, Spurs, who have spent over £100m on new players this summer.
So the signs are good. Further evidence in Arsenal’s favour was provided by Jose Mourinho’s deadline day behaviour and the comments that followed.
Given the lack of options upfront, Arsene Wenger was clearly in the market for a new striker this summer. He failed to bring in both Gonzalo Higuain and Luis Suarez and thus turned to Chelsea forward Demba Ba in the dying hours of the transfer window.
The Gunners attempted to wrap up a loan deal for the Senegalese international, but Mourinho stepped into veto the move. He later explained why:
So yes, the Gunners probably don’t have enough options upfront, but with their midfield buzzing, they may well compensate. Let’s hope the silverware drought is over.
What’s your take? Can the Gunners compete for the title this year?

I’m an arsenal fan and I like to keep things real, I don’t think we gonna be title contenders because we lack the number of players in our team and arsenal players get injured very easily
My friend with the midfield dat we have evryone is scared to play with us.mark dis day nd u should come back again in may
Mesut ozil replacement of eight year withought trophy for arsenal
But jose is inhuman, why wil you demand 2m for a player that wana come for a loan?? You dont want arsenal to carry trophy right? Your plans wil not work out well.
For Mou to have declared us title contenders means we’ve captured a gem whose creativity and vision cannot be quantified and can make us challenge for the much-coveted trophy.
ofcos, we can.we are contender long b4 d addition of ozil, our defeat to villa only shaped our mentality 2 d season. so many event will unfold but arsenal will be very successful this season.
Our team is now out 4 some trophies.better luck to u all
Still dodgy at the back, Chesney is still prone to errors and Giroud needs too many chances, we still are not strong enough, Wenger had the money but his tightness meant once again he missed out
yah no dought the “special one” iz right arsenal can do it
Realy we can contend for title this season with addition of Ozil and i will also advise Wenger to buy world class striker in january so as to help boost team’s moral.
With the addition of Ozil, Arsenal can challenge for the title this season.
I think Mourine know how Arsene Wenger he can create the team when he can get Ba that whats why he dont accept the offer of Arsenal
