Could this player’s uncertain future force an Arsenal move?

MichuAny fears that Michu would suffer from second season syndrome seem to have been washed away by his fine start to the season.

His 22 goals last season were impressive. The fact that he’s already chipped in with a few this year is even more so. The Spanish striker/midfielder is showing no signs of slowing down and his importance to Swansea City is becoming all the more pronounced.

Suffice to say, all the suggestions that he was the signing of last season (alongside Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke) were correct. This man is the real deal. Swansea City aren’t going to want to let go of him without a fight.

Unfortunately for Swansea City, they don’t have the financial muscle to fight off the top European clubs should they come knocking (surely it’s only a matter of time until they do so?) Whilst he’s still fresh to the Premier League, I wouldn’t be surprised if he fancied another step up to a bigger club and a chance for some Champions League action.

If the Swans are forced into a position where they have to sell, it’s up to Michael Laudrup to ensure his club gets the best fee possible for him. Interestingly enough, Laudrup has spoken about his concerns for the player’s future:

“Michu wants to stay. He wanted to stay after his first season because he wanted to take part in the second year with Europe and everything.”

“What happens in the future? I don’t know but I think it’s so important what the player wants and I don’t think Michu had any doubts whatsoever that he wanted to stay here this season, but then what happens next year no one knows.”

In other words, Laudrup wont stand in the way of the player’s desires should a bigger club move in.

The Star suggest that this fact could reignite Arsenal’s interest. The Gunners were linked with the Spanish forward throughout the summer, but never lodged a formal bid.

Given their need for a striker, it wouldn’t surprise me if Arsene Wenger considered a January move.

Arsenal would have to cough up a fair sum of money to convince the Swans to sell, but we know that they have the capital to make a deal happen.

With Michu’s future uncertain, Arsenal going in strong could reap its benefits. Let’s see if Arsene Wenger is willing to splash out on another big deal!

What’s your take? Should Arsenal move in for Michael Laudrup?

It will be fantastic if Wenger decides to go for Michu. He is a proven player in the premier league and will add more weight to our attacking options which will only improve our chances of winning big things this year.Ideally, if we get Bender in January or in the summer, then we will be even greater and more lethal in the coming years. We will have more valuable options in our squad to challenge on all fronts.
