Andrea PirloManchester United’s 1-0 win over their arch-rivals, Liverpool, may have put them back on a righteous path, but there’s still the feeling among fans that the Red Devils lack creativity in their midfield.

That’s why they’ve struggled in the big games. Whilst they have enough in reserve to turn-over the likes of Swansea City, clubs like Chelsea and Manchester City have proven to be difficult obstacles to overcome.

Michael Carrick is an excellent holding midfielder. Marouane Fellaini is a good defensive midfielder, who can also play further up the pitch. But neither player provides Manchester United with the spark of creativity that the club needs.

Shinji Kagawa is a tidy player, but clearly doesn’t have David Moyes’ trust. It’s a bizarre situation that only underlines United’s need to take action in the January transfer window. But who should the Red Devils target when the transfer window swings open?

According to The Star, Andrea Pirlo’s time at Juventus may be coming to an end, with head coach Antonio Conte yet to offer him a new contract. They also suggest that Pirlo fancies a move to the Premier League.

As one of the best passers in the game and one of the classiest acts in world football, I’d love to see him in the Premier League. Given United’s need for some midfield inspiration, I can’t help put feel like these two would be a perfect match.

There may be some concerns regarding Pirlo’s age, but I hope this doesn’t stop David Moyes from making his move. Yes, he’s 34-years-old and starting to slow down, but he was never exactly renowned for his pace in the first place. It’s the speed and range of his passing that counts and he won’t lose that for some time.

It’s also worth noting that Pirlo is a born winner, who works hard for his team and always drives play forward. He’d be a real asset for most clubs and it’s difficult to see why Juventus would let him move on.

Manchester United can’t afford to stagnate. If David Moyes fails to make the right decisions in January, they could be out of the running by February/March. Let’s hope that’s not the case.

Let’s hope that he puts Andrea Pirlo on his transfer wish-list.

What’s your take? Would Andrea Pirlo be a good option for Manchester United or should David Moyes be looking at younger options?
