Leandro DamiaoThe Luis Suarez continues to provides plenty of twists and turns, with The Mirror even suggesting that Arsenal could come back with a £50m bid for the Uruguayan forward.

The Gunners have already had £30, and £40, (+£1) bids turned down, but should they add another £10m to their previous efforts, they may give the Reds something to think about.

Luis Suarez has caused a great deal of trouble over the last 12 months and for that much money, Brendan Rodgers may be willing to cut ties.

But his sale would leave the Reds with a big gap in their squad and little time to fill it. That’s why it’s important to have a plan in place should Suarez move on this summer.

According to The Mirror, Liverpool are ‘preparing to turn their attention’ to Leandro Damiao, a Brazilian striker and long-term Spurs transfer target.

Whilst he’s not quite up there on Suarez’s level, I think he would be a good replacement for the Uruguayan (he’d certainly be considerably less trouble).

The 24-year-old is remarkably gifted. He’s fleet of foot, can take players on and has excellent technical ability. He’s also surprisingly strong in the air, can hold the ball up well and is good at combining with other players. Most importantly, he’s also confident in front of goal and knows how to find the back of the net.

Given his frame, speed and grace on the ball, I’d say he’d be a good fit for the Premier League and Liverpool in particular. Whether or not Luis Suarez moves on this summer, I hope Brendan Rodgers makes a move for Damiao.

At 24-years-old, the Brazilian ace is still yet to hit his peak. Now’s the time for a club like Liverpool to make their move. The player himself must surely be up for a move to Europe, where he’ll really be able to attract the limelight. It’s not clear how much Internacional would want for the player, but he certainly wont come cheap.

Liverpool have started the season well. Signing a top talent like Damiao would only add to the wealth of good feeling currently surrounding the club. The Reds are already extremely well placed. Damiao would simply be the icing on the cake.

What’s your take? Should Brendan Rodgers make a move for Leandro Damiao, or should he look elsewhere?

How self-delusional can you get? You admit he’s been a long-term Tottenham target but think he’d jump at the chance to join Liverpool because “the player himself must surely be up for a move to Europe”. If Spurs can’t buy him – they are in Europe , they have needed a striker and they are spending money more freely than Liverpool – then why can Liverpool?

Southampton were also sniffing around the player before giving up on him. Internacional do not want to sell and, although you’re convinced the Premier League is the be-all and end-all of world football, the player seems happy to play in Brazil.

Also, the idea that Liverpool have started the season well is plain daft. One game. One goal. Without that one goal you’d be saying Liverpool have started badly and desperately need investment, but because of one goal you’re saying it’s been a good start and any investment is just the icing on top.

A bit of perspective goes a long way.

Tottenham only scored one goal against the newbies and that was a penalty they looked poor

    • Dean jones says:

I’m a scouser & reds fan,but while Spurs have bought class players we have bought B team players at best ;-( And while Spurs are spending £90+ million,Liverpool have a net spend of + £6 million pound. We have SLASHED the wage bill ALSO.We are screwed this season,we will be lucky to get TOP 8,because the likes of Swansea & Southampton have bought a better class player than Liverpool.Rodgers is an idiot if he thinks where going to be STRONGER this season ( IN Mignolet Toure Aspas Alberto ) ( OUT Reina Shelvey Spearing Downing Carroll Suso Coady Robinson ) If bringing 4 players in & letting 8 go out is STRENGTHENING,THEN IM MISSING SOMETHING ;-(

    • Mack says:

Spurs wanted Damiao but didnt get him. If Liverpool want him, and bid enough they will get him. Last season Liverpool wanted Dempsey and Sigurdson and lost out to Spurs, but ended up with Couthino and Sturridge instead. This summer we may lose out on Willian, (a bit of a show pony who doesnt score enough) but end up with Damiao or Turan. Liverpool played great on Saturday and created many chances but the Premierships best goalie kept the score down, I wasnt very impressed by Spurs creativity at the weekend. The player AND his club have said Damiao could leave for the right offer, looking forward to rainbow flicks at Anfield this season !!!

What part of not for sale do you not understand? Total nonsense

    • malcolm hindley says:

bang on andrew, they take no notice as it would make stories like this pointless

  • kop4blife says:

i think lfc owners wont spend a big money 4 good players thats why they’re dealing with loan deals any way, we’ll keep nwa

  • stephan says:

Liverpool has lost the deal for Willian. 2 weeks left before the transfer market close. I think they have to sign a world class player

  • imran ely says:

I think damiao is looking good player for liverpool in long-term but I don’t really the negositor of the club can bring him into the team. I think is not about money.. But about looser negosiator. I hope the club can win and take him out.

  • Red says:

Soldado, Chadli, Paulinho, Siggurdsen, Dembele and soon Willian if recent reports are to be believed. You could include Dempsey to that list of players that the reds lost out to going head to head with spurs. Net spending £100million +

For Spurs a fifth finish is laughable. The reds could given the greater depth in defence finish higher than 7th with ease, job done. Net spending less than £20million and wages slashed.

Bale could recoup funds as yet that is only a possibility not a certainty. As it happens the midfield is stagnated with expensive talent and an uncertain future. Not good if I’m honest. Spurs could struggle to settle on a first eleven. At best 5th or 6th.

The reds do need one more flair player and Willian does fit that profile. However given the deeper defensive capacity with Toure and Cissokho the added physicality will prove immensely beneficial. The reds will be closer to the front runners. 5th or 6th.

Conclusion AVB will sooner or later answer for willy nilly spending as 5th won’t be good enough.

While BR will likely find more unknown talent at a bargain adding to the likes of Coutinho.

  • Zothan says:

(please re-direct this to mr. Rodgers if possible)

Move on quick and fast, there’s only two weeks left in the window. If lfc is thinking of a revolution, then it is just similar to a utopia, unless and until there is a marquee signing. And why do totenham have to snatch our targets time and time again? You have all the time to prove that lfc is a greater club…so ACT FAST. QUIT STALLING AROUND AND SIGN WHO YOU WANT BEFORE OTHER ENGLISH RIVALS SNATCH THE STAKE FROM OUR PLATES! YNWA!!!

  • Bogus says:

Meet his release clause and he’ll sign for you. Spurs weren’t willing to meet it.
