Arsenal haven’t exactly excelled at starting the season well in recent years. The club is such that there’s always a certain amount of upheaval, or turmoil taking place throughout the summer. This usually impacts on how the club performs during the opening weeks of the season.
Last year, the Gunners had to deal with selling Robin Van Persie to Manchester United. This year has been even worse. The Gunners have had to deal with a complete stagnation. The club’s top brass, including Arsene Wenger, have been unwilling, or unable to make deals happen and the Gunners have suffered as a result.
Despite the pleas of fans, pundits and players alike, Arsenal have sat still whilst the likes of Tottenham, Liverpool and Manchester City have all strengthened. A fourth place finish for the Gunners is already looking like too difficult a challenge.
Selling RVP was a justifiable mistake. But I can’t find any justification for Arsenal not spending any dosh. Everybody associated with the club knows this current squad isn’t strong enough. The signs were there last season – the Gunners really didn’t need a 3-1 thrashing from Aston Villa to remind them of the lay of the land.
The only positive from Arsenal’s opening day defeat, is that it may force the club to finally start making some signings. With a lack of options upfront, limited creativity in the centre-of-the-park and a lacklustre defense, there’s plenty of work to be done.
The Mirror claim that Swansea City’s Michu is Arsenal’s current ‘Plan B’. They also note that his current contract runs until 2016 and that he wont be let go for less than £25m.
That’s a lot of money, for a player who only has one season’s worth of Premier League success behind him.
Still, Michu was fantastic last season, finding the back of the net 22 times and causing Arsenal all sorts of bother on a number of occasions.
The Spaniard isn’t all that pacey, but he is technically gifted, uses his physical strength well and has a powerful, accurate shot on him. Given the Gunners weaknesses upfront, I’m not surprised they’re interested in Michu.
Still, he does strike me as a ‘Plan B’, rather than a ‘Plan A’. I’d sooner see the Gunners go back in for Luis Suarez or perhaps even Wayne Rooney.
But if Arsene Wenger can’t pull off those deals, signing Michu would surely compensate.

The handlers of arsenal are so stupid, foolish, sturbon and sting that they can’t finish any deal. Tonight the team might add more injuries and if it happens Saturday will be another disgrace to we fans, the board and the handlers are eating whatever the club get annually. Wenger and any other person that is responsible should sacked. Arsen is an idiot.
