The perfect Manchester United alternative to Cesc Fabregas?

Marouane FellainiBy now, Manchester United fans must be sick of hearing the name ‘Cesc Fabregas’. The club has worked so hard to make a deal happen, but it looks as far of as ever. In this case, David Moyes appears to be chasing shadows.

Given Cesc Fabregas’ Arsenal affiliation and love for his boyhood club Barcelona, a deal was always going to be difficult to engineer. What’s more, the whole saga also appears to have revealed certain complications written into the player’s contract.

It seems that Arsenal sold Barcelona Cesc Fabregas on the condition that it would be very difficult for him to end up back in the Premier League and not be playing for themselves. This was a smart move.

I can only hope that David Moyes and co. realise they’ve been out-foxed. It’s time to move on. But who else should they be looking at?

According to The Star, United have already drawn up a list of alternatives to Cesc Fabregas. On that list is Marouane Fellaini, who I would argue would make for an excellent addition at Old Trafford. He’d also be significantly cheaper than Cesc.

Reds legend Macari certainly appears to be on my side in this argument. Speaking to the Press about Manchester United’s long-running transfer sagas, he said:

“What Fellaini gives you, which Fabregas doesn’t, is goals. He likes to get forward and I’m not sure [Fabregas] gives you that. What Fabregas does do, though, is give you the ability to knock the balls around.

Well, Marouane Fellaini also has the ability to ‘knock balls around’. The big Belgium is among the most technically gifted players in the Premier League. This often seems to get forgotten, because he’s a good, versatile all-rounder.

He’s a strong defender, who wins everything in the air. He’s capable of using his power, and precision in the centre-of-the-park to help pull the strings. He’s also spent a significant amount of his career playing as a striker. Fellaini really can do it all.

Best of all, Moyes knows the 25-year-old like the back of his hand. This deal seems to make sense on a number of levels. Cesc Fabregas, who?

Premier League action is fast approaching. We can only hope a deal can be agreed quickly, but given Manchester United’s sluggish approach to the transfer market, I wouldn’t bet my house on it.

What’s your take: should Manchester United turn their attention to signing Marouane Fellaini?

  • Repo says:

Fellaini is fuckin shit .He is sub standard to anything we have already . He can’t play the ball on the ground all he does is knock the ball down with his head .The transfer policy is a fuckin joke this summer

  • kareem kabiru says:

moyes look too slow in transfer market if not,he should have plan for as many as posible players he would need to succeed at united not when u resume duty that he will now be looking so despirate on a player,if he has acted fast united could have landed thiago before guadiola show his intrest. Anyway i dont think united need a player like fellani when we have carrick, all we need its a mobile, strong, discipline midfielder.

  • Isaac says:

  • pascal kulz says:

manchester united should do all they can to bring fellaini because of fletcher’s health condition. And moyes should not only focus on him because his bid may fail.fellaini is a good play.he has shoot,he can defend, he can pass, he knod ,he score.i think he will do much better at united

  • emmydon says:

shut the fuck up Mr.repo,u seem not to know the ability of that young man fellaini becox he plays in england, fab falls easily but fella dont.thats the kind of midfielder we need,as for baka they are greedy merchants who wud want to buy all ur best but wount sell any to u,i will say fuck dem,for moyes he is jxt typical slow in d market but he shud remember manUtd is above giving patience like we did to sir Alex, those days are gone, his six yrs contract can be terminated under a seconds and find more action coach, but in another case what i think as well is that he want to prove to the whole world that he can still make success wt the current squad jxt like alex, but lucks are not the same, finally about our midfield i wud like moyes to go for ever banega of valencia, that guy is 3much in the park.wt fab fund can get this two guy, fellaini and banega wt the current crop the sky wil be moyes starting point.coat ur coat according to ur size mr moyes.stop going for those players you know u cant buy…..thanx

  • Roy says:

Get rid of the fat Scouse twat swap Rooney for mata … Good business

  • Mufc says:

We all know Fellani is second rate compared to Cesc and this includes Moyes who clearly wanted Cesc. Fellani would not be in my top 5 of midfielders to bid for and if he is our major signing of the summer, I feel its not gonna be a great season. City have bought big and if Rooney goes we will be weaker. The signs don’t appear great at the moment for Untied retaining the prem, however the windows not closed yet.
