Should Arsenal go back in for this £18m ace?

Yohan CabayeGiven all the big names that have been linked to Arsenal over the last week or so, Yohan Cabaye’s name is beginning to get lost in the mix. Yet we know the club’s interest in the Newcastle player is real (they’ve already lodged an official bid for him) and that he fits the typical Arsenal player profile.

With all that in mind, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Cabaye in an Arsenal shirt before the transfer window slams shut. One thing’s for sure, however, Newcastle won’t make it easy.

And why would they? The Magpies have been burnt before. They’ve lost their best players countless times over the last decade. They won’t want it to happen again and will fight tooth and nail to prevent him joining the Gunners.

Alan Pardew has already described Cabaye as: one of the best in the world in his position”.

Hyperbole or not, this statement proves how valued Cabaye is at St James’ Park. Indeed, The Star suggest that Newcastle won’t let go of the French international for under £18m.

They also claim that Arsenal are willing to offer £13m. I can’t help but wonder if the two clubs could meet in the middle to try and make a deal happen.

Cabaye himself is believed to have his heart set on a move to the Emirates. Newcastle risk having an unhappy player on their books if they don’t cash in now. I’d argue it’s in the club’s best interests to seek mutually beneficial terms with the Gunners.

Whether or not you’d view it as a defeat for Newcastle, they’d make a significant profit on the sale, given that the French ace was brought in for just £4.8m back in 2011.

Indeed, the sooner a deal is wrapped up, the more time Alan Pardew will have bring somebody else in. As the Newcastle boss has noted: “if he doesn’t stay we need to get someone equally as good.”

Amen to that.

As for Arsenal, they’d be getting a player who would be a step up on the likes of Tomas Rosicky, Abou Diaby and Aaron Ramsey. His passing range and ability over a dead-ball could elevate the club up the Premier League table and have them competing for silverware once more.

This may not quite be a win-win for both clubs, but it could come with rewards for everybody involved. It’ll be interesting to watch this one unfold over the next couple of days.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal go back in for Yohan Cabaye?

Whats point paying 18million for cabye when he’s not better than the players we have we should get players to improve our team not just go backwards if they r gonna pay over odds try get fabregas back offer 40 mil or fetch song back , we should have got wanamaya but wenger lost out again we can be in for ten players an only get 1by monday and that will probably be over priced cabaye

Wenger’s ditherin’ in this transfer window is causin’ our club more harm than good…clubs & players don’t take us serious again….we place derisory bids,we don’t follow up our bids with utmost hunger,we unsettle players & leave them in suspense even when they are keen to join us,we waste time on potential buys,no plan B,we love firebrigade approach in transfers…..by sept 3 wenger will end up bringin’ in average players, contradictin’ his so called special talents & he will come out & say clubs are not willin’ to sell.which player in our current squad is better than mario Gomez,Gonzaln Higuain, soldado, negredo, gustavo, willian, bender, suarez,he lost all these top top targets because of penny pinchin’ & ditherin’…..wenger stop embrassin’ arsenal.

Right on point bro.Wenger is only taking the gunners faithful for a ride.he has no intention of improving the squad.whether that is in agreement with the board cannot be ascertained. His so called special talents is a way of pulling the wool aver our eyes.while everybody is busy strengthening their squad including spuds we have only be regaled with excuses about premier league teams not wanting to sell to rival teams.what about Higuian,Gustavo,Jovetic and a host of others. No real intent.

Am really a big fan of ut i can assure you Arsenal dont need Cabaye. we need a DM. Wenger should wake up.Ramsey’s form should not deceive him.We all know that form is temporary but class is permanent.Ramsey and Wilshere should be backup for each other. You cant start comparing Ramsey to the likes of Gilberto and Veira that’s completely unacceptable.I dont see our team winning anything without a defensive midfielder, completely nothing the whole world sees that with their naked eyes

  • Amil says:

Arsenal should wilshere has dropped we should get cabaye for the bench and go for ozil or di Maria and I think flamini is most likely to join us
