Does David Moyes Really Need To Spend This Season?

|

he club also lacks a real world class wide option. Nani isn’t playing the way he did a couple of season ago, and this is a club that has had the likes of Ronaldo, Giggs and Beckham playing out wide for them before. The current option of Valencia, Zaha, Nani or Young don’t scream world class.  Moyes may get the best out of Nani again or Zaha might become the player he is so highly tipped to become. That being said the 4 players can all do a decent job for the club still.

Carrick was superb last season but the players who are around him need upgrading. Giggs can only do so much at his age. Andersen of course has never been the player that he was meant to be. Tom Cleverly started his career with some what of a bang but has since gone off the boil. That doesn’t mean the Moyes won’t be able to turn the young Englishman’s career around.

Up front is perhaps the only place they don’t need any work at all. Van Persie is without doubt the best striker in the league. Even if Rooney doesn’t play well this season or is sold off, they have options. Welbeck continues to improve as a player. Hernandez is great option up front and would probably be the first choice to fill in for RVP even ahead of Rooney. They also have Kagawa who can play in the role behind the forwards.

Moyes need to take control of the side, make it his and start to build his own dynasty at the club. What he doesn’t need to do is spend large sums of money on a side that doesn’t need a quick fix. Sure if the right player at the right price was to become available them it makes sense. The one glaring hole in the team is a creative option in the midfield but the club doesn’t need to spend over the top on players who may not do the job. Is 25M + for Fellani really good business and is he the player they need? Probably not.

If Moyes spends this season it should be on young talent that will play in the reserves or go out on loan for a season or two to improve before making the first team. Players like Richairo Zivkovic who are touted to be the next next Robben should be high on the shopping list. A player like that would probably cost the club 4-5M, which the club could get 3 or 4 similar up and coming stars without breaking the bank.

The future is very bright for Moyes and Manchester United. A good year with the current squad and a slow focused rebuild with push the club the new glories and let Moyes step out from under the shadow of the greatest football manager of all time.
