Are Manchester United right to make one last £35m push?

Cesc FabregasOne of the summers’, longest, most frustrating and bizarre transfer sagas is the one between Manchester United and Cesc Fabregas.

The links to Fabregas seemed to come out of nowhere, but over the last month or so, it’s become increasingly clear that David Moyes’s interest in the Barcelona ace isn’t just flirtation – it’s full blown infatuation. It’s beginning to look like it’s Cesc or nobody. If United don’t pull off this deal, their sluggish approach to the summer transfer window is sure to come under heavy scrutiny.

It’s little wonder that David Moyes keeps coming back for more. According to The Mirror, Manchester United are willing to make a ‘take it or leave it’ offer for Cesc, but understand that their are certain boundaries that must be overcome to make a deal happen.

United’s new bid (their third) is believed to amount to more than £35m when all add-ons and bonuses are tallied up. This, of course, would beat Manchester United’s current transfer record.

Intriguingly, it’s claimed that Barcelona are forced to turn down any offer from a Premier League club, because of ‘fiendishly complicated’ terms that Arsenal wrote into Cesc’s Barca contract. I thought at the time Arsenal sold Fabregas for under market-price, but it appears there was a good reason for this. The result of all these issues, is talk that Cesc Fabregas could buy out his Barcelona contract to facilitate a move to Old Trafford.

I’m glad to see Manchester United are still attempting to make things happen. A player like Cesc Fabregas would surely revolutionise David Moyes’ midfield. But, perhaps it’s time to get realistic.

You have to question, if Manchester United are willing to spend this much money on him and Arsenal could sign him for only £25m (the Gunners have ‘first refusal’ at this fee), why aren’t they? Does Arsene Wenger know something we don’t? Is the reason he hasn’t stepped in to prevent Fabregas moving to Old Trafford because he realises that no such deal is possible?

Perhaps he’s keen to ensure that Cesc Fabregas enjoys as much time as possible with his boyhood club before moving back to the Emirates.

Either way, a final Manchester United bid for Cesc Fabregas is a good thing. Either they’ll get their man, or they’ll know it’s time to move on. The sooner either eventuality can be realised, the better for the club. With Premier League football fast approaching, the pressure is now on.

What’s your take? Is it time to give up on Cesc Fabregas?

At the same ttime,I feel something is up on the minds of the guys at Old Traffod. They know something is up and there’s hope somewhere or someone’s telling them something can happen. Fingers crossed.
