Cesc FabregasBy now it’s clear that Manchester United are on the hunt for a midfielder. David Moyes has said as much:

“Signing a midfield player was one area where we thought we could possibly add to the squad”.

This has been reflected in the transfer targets that have been attributed to Manchester United. They were strongly linked to Thiago Alcantara before he went to Bayern Munich. After that, they did something very few people were expecting and launched a £26m bid for Barcelona’s Cesc Fabregas.

Whilst United clearly need an attacking midfielder, few people expected them to target a player with such strong links to Arsenal. Cesc isn’t exactly a one-club man, but it’s hard to see him playing for anybody other than Barcelona or Arsenal, the two clubs he loves.

Cesc is a passionate young man. He’s still very much an Arsenal fan and I’m sure he still holds grudges, or gripes with United players from his time in the Premier League.

It’s just hard to picture him pulling on a United shirt and wandering out onto the Old Trafford pitch.

This is especially true given what we’ve heard since United made their bid. We’ve heard, for instance, that Arsenal have a buy-back option on Fabregas. If United’s interest grows too strong, I’m sure Wenger would step in and snap up a player who would otherwise significantly improve a rival team.

What’s more, a recent article from The Mirror claimed that Cesc has told his friends that his first priority is to stay at Barcelona and prove himself in La Liga.

But if United raise their interest levels and force Barca to consider selling him, Cesc may well start to rally for a move back to his former club, Arsenal.

However you cut it, things don’t look good for Manchester United and Cesc Fabregas. Arsenal, on the other hand, could get Cesc Fabregas back in their squad far sooner than anybody would have expected.

Signing an attacking midfielder this summer isn’t the Gunners’ biggest priority, but missing out on Cesc would be foolish. Letting him go to Manchester United would be unforgivable, especially since Wenger sold the Red Devils Robin Van Persie (another former Arsenal captain) last summer.

The thought of Jack Wilshere, Cesc Fabregas and Santi Cazorla playing together should force all Arsenal fans to appreciate the merits of securing this deal. Certainly, it’s more preferable than him playing alongside Michael Carrick and Shinji Kagawa.

What’s you’re take? Should Arsenal really be chasing their old flame?

Ha, love how you gunners seem to think fabregas has some undying loyalty to arsenal. I’m sure you all thought RVP was the same!
Fact is arsenal are now a worse team then when cesc left, they do not challenge for anything anymore. Utd are comfortably the biggest team in England, and if he is to leave barce then im sure he would pick them. Put bias and hatred out of your mind, and honestly think about which club a top professional footballer would rather play for, its a no brainer, sadly arsenal no longer are amongst Europes elite

  • IMRAN SHAIKH says:

Given the fact Barcelona have already sold Thiago can’t see them selling Fabregas as well.

  • Ryan says:

Well normally, I don’t let myself be drawn into completely biased articles. But do you honestly believe that fabregas would rather play alongside Santi carzola (granted a good but but a good player at best) and jack Wilshire (potentially a great but injury prone and haven’t seen him play consistently good). Look at Carrick, one of the premier leagues best midfielders, most forward passes in Europe and helped lead united to a title and kagawa who was the best player in the bundesliga (ahead of gotze, ribbery, robben, lewandowski, hummels). Arsenal will not buy fabregas, you have no ambition.

Hope Wenger does not et the manure take him. He is still an Arsenal fan because he does follow our matches with intent and purpose and I equally hurt when we lose.

Noone disputes Man U are the current number one club in England at present. However, they remain untested under Moyes.

As for Arsenal being miles behind, they are not. Every season Arsenal finish strong for 4th spot and every season we have injury issues that leave us out the running by February. If Arsenal can sign a world class striker or 2 and with Cesc linking the midfield to the front line and with Theo’s pace on the wing then we will score goals – a lot of them.

Its time for Arsenal to invest in the team again instead of the stadium and the proof will be in black and white come May next year.

Let’s sign em all – we have the money.

  • Morrygooner says:

Simon, it get it from me. Arsenal are in a better position of winning a trophy next season than before because we have not lost any big gun as it was in the previous summers when could sell our best player of the previous season.

  • Arsenal says:

    Simon…….you are a retard

  • medida hernandez says:

moyes u have lost, ask why?cos u are afraid to announce that u are intrested in signin a midfielder, then a coach who have confident just take the advantage, robson who has fail in diffirent occasion make a statement that man u is not intrested in signin a midfielder,it means u are not confident of ur job, with carrick u will loose every ueropian game,

  • rusty hoops says:

City and chelsea will both finish above united this season pal sir alix was the only reason for your success when roney goes your squas is average at best compared to city and chelsea

  • Mike says:

Arsen Wenger should not give any reason why he should not sign at least three formidable and experienced players, one in defense, one in midfield and one in attack. Wenger should not be deceived with whatever result Arsenal is having from the season tour games, the club should spend the money now whether Fabregas or no Fabregas. There are a lot of loopholes in Arsenal’s team.

hmm fab4 will never goin to man united, becouse he grow in arsenal and in his hearth there is still hartred of red devil,

  • panther says:

Wenger makes me sick! He seems obsessed in nurturing young players instead of giving Arsenal football club the best chance of winning trophies, by buying experienced players .
