The final straw in the Luis Suarez saga?

Luis SuarezThe Luis Suarez transfer saga looks set to run-and-run. By now, I think most Liverpool fans just want the whole affair to be offer.

Earlier this summer, the Liverpool faithful may have been keen for Suarez to stay. But a slew of interviews, a bad attitude and a lack of gratitude on Suarez’s behalf has begun to chip away at this outlook. All that seems to be left now, is apathy.

Either he stays and the Reds keep a gifted player, who is good for 20-30 goals a season (and is also likely to cause trouble of some kind). Or, he goes and Liverpool receive a handsome fee in return. That seems like a win-win for me.

Of course, the club itself can’t afford to be so blasé. In public, Liverpool FC have maintained that Luis Suarez is not for sale.

As a result, there’s been a bit of commotion over the last week over reports emanating from Spain (via The Telegraph), that Luis Suarez may already have agreed personal terms with Real Madrid.

If there’s any truth to these claims, I think both the club and the fans, will consider Suarez’s actions to be a betrayal. He’s currently under contract with Liverpool and should not be talking to other clubs unless he’s given permission to do so. It would be disappointing, but such an act isn’t exactly outside of Suarez’s character.

The Uruguayan has been using the media to further his own aims all summer. He’s been using interviews during the Confederations Cup to make his position at Anfield all but untenable.

In many ways, the situation reminds me of Robin Van Persie’s ‘letter to the fans’, from last summer. Both are cases where a player has tried to earn himself a move away from his current club, whilst attempting to paint himself as a beleaguered, put-upon figure, who is only trying to do the right thing.

Well, phooey. Whilst many Liverpool fans are still defensive when it comes to Suarez, but I think a line has to be drawn somewhere. It seems that Suarez stopped thinking about Liverpool fans sometime ago. Maybe it’s time for Liverpool fans to return the favour?

The Reds could use the fee they receive in return for Suarez to buy a world-class striker who won’t cause a nuisance every other week. That, I think, would be a step up.

What’s your take? Is it finally time for Luis Suarez to move on?

I got as far as “I think most Liverpool fans just want the whole affair to be offer” given that it should say “over” I didn’t bother reading the rest!

  • George says:

Hard to pick anything sensible from this article. You just tell us what we already know, throwing shit around and claiming that a club of Real Madrid’s stature can be so disparate as to talk to Suarez without LFC’s consent.

I’m a 54 yr old Koppite who has stood and watched some breathtaking players, the likes of Hughes, Clemence, Rush, Keegan, Dalglish, Aldo, Torres and all. None of these great players were bigger than the club and none will ever be. If Suarez wants to go then so be it.
This club is special and most of us would play for nothing. The disappointing thing about all of this is that another great club, Real Madrid, can’t stand up and deny this.
Thanks Luois it’s been great and hope you stay, but if not, like all the greats we’ve had, we’ll sing your name when you come back to play us, beat you and make you wish you’d never left.

well. in ma own opinion, now the club can struggle without suarez. and all these rumours about him going or staying will only make him feel bigger than he is. if he want to go then nobody should stoP or beg him to stay. am really getting irritated about this matter.
