Chelsea’s Summer Plans: what will the Blues be doing in the transfer market?

|

In the pivot is where our problem really lies. But, we still have a great bunch of players. De Bruyne is back and this is a position he could possibly play but he would need a disciplined DM next to him. You have John Obi Mikel, Romeu, Frank Lampard, Chalobah, Josh McEachran and Ramires also all vying for those spots.

I think Romeu needs to go out on loan to allow him regular first team football to help overcome his injury. He is a good player but needs regular first team football to help him improve. McEachran and Chalobah are the two that are difficult to place. I think one needs to stay and the other needs to go to Swansea for experience.

Why Swansea? Because they have a small squad and are playing in Europe next year. The chance to have a quality player join them on loan would be mutually beneficial for both parties.

I would keep Chalobah. He has impressed me more this season with the way that he has played and deserves the opportunity to fight for his place. I would give him the pre-season to show what he can do and then use him like Ake and Piazon in the cup games and a few lower league opponents.

McEachran needs more regular first team football before making the step up. I would have kept him but Chelsea seem sure to get Van Ginkel from Vitesse and he fills the hole that McEachran would fill. Therefore, a loan is better.

Strikers:

Here is where our problems lie. Thank God that Mourinho wants to use Romelu Lukaku next season. He has more than proved he is capable and deserves a chance.

Iam done with Fernando Torres. Yes, he did okay last season, but his non-existence in certain games is not good enough. Demba Ba I have no issue with. I think a pre-season for him will help him get used to the team and he could do well next season.

Chelsea definitely need to buy a striker and with some big strikers moving they need to make sure they get the right one. Mario Gomez seems set for Fiorentina, which is a shame although his age was slightly worrying. Gonzalo Higuain and Edinson Cavani are the big two up for grabs, with possibly Wayne Rooney in there too.

Cavani would be a big signing, but that seems to have stalled. The asking price seems very steep and I would question if he is worth that much.

Higuain is a bit of an unknown quantity. He is a good player but has struggled to make a huge impact at Real. Also, with a new manager in Carlo Ancelotti, he may decide that Higuain is part of his plans and keep him.

Rooney could be a gamble and it would depend on his price. Anything around the 30 million mark could be a very good deal. Rooney is a proven striker and I have no doubt that Mourinho would be able to bring the best out of him. Still, Moyes will do everything to keep hold of him. I can’t see Manchester United selling to a rival. But, he has shown he is a very capable striker and could be a great addition to the squad.

Whoever Chelsea buy or include in their squad next season, I just hope that they improve on their previous two years. I’m not expecting to win the league, but I would like us to be up there challenging a bit more and to try and bridge the points gap from last season. I will be paying close attention to the pre-season to see what happens.
