Fabregas-BarcelonaCesc Fabregas is no stranger to speculation. During his time at Arsenal, he was linked to Barcelona every single summer. And we’re not talking about the occasional article going out across the tabloids, or across online media. No, Fabregas was subject to Barcelona’s relentless media machine. And that, I’m sure, is difficult to deal with.

When he finally made his way to the Nou Camp, he must have thought that these days were behind him. Apparently not. The speculation surrounding Cesc’s future is as strong as ever.

Following on from a vaguely disappointing season with Barcelona, the former Arsenal star has been linked repeatedly to both the Gunners and Manchester United.

Despite the claims of the Daily Mail, the links to Manchester United always felt a little tenuous. Why would somebody who clearly still has a massive affinity towards Arsenal, join a rival club? Why would somebody who’s currently at his dream club, leave to join a club with an uncertain future (after all, who knows how David Moyes’ arrival at the club will affect the status quo?).

It just doesn’t make sense. Thankfully, Cesc Fabregas has spoken out about his future: “It’s fascinating how some people can invent these things. I’ve never opened my mouth about this. I’m very happy, it’s taken a lot to get where I am and I don’t plan on throwing that away for anything. The truth is that if I didn’t feel that I was wanted it would be different, but I haven’t been told anything. I’m very happy, the truth is that I want to triumph with Barcelona.” (Source: The Mirror)

That, I think, should be the end of the matter. Cesc has his attention firmly set on Barcelona. He’s unlikely to be tempted away by any other Premier League club, even if that club is Arsenal.

Cesc seems to understand that he wasn’t at his best last season. But he’s desperate to make an impression and keep improving. That’s the sign of a player with lots of character.

It’s time for Manchester United and Arsenal to start looking at other targets. Manchester United in particular need to be looking at other midfield recruits.

Moyes will face a real challenge defending Manchester United’s championship next season. If he’s to pull it off, he’ll need all the reinforcements he can get. At least now it’s clear that Cesc Fabregas wont be a part of the club’s future.

What’s your take? Is it time for Manchester United to give up on Cesc Fabregas, or should they keep on gunning?
