Could Arsenal be about to pluck this £8.5m bargain from their rival’s grip?

NaniOf all the goings-on surrounding the summer transfer window, one of the most perplexing stories involves Nani.

Manchester United’s much maligned, but incredibly gifted winger seems to have no future at his current club. For the last year or so, we’ve seen a laundry list of clubs get linked to the 26-year-old, but now that the summer has rolled by, the offers aren’t exactly rolling in.

There are strong rumours that Turkish powerhouse, Galatasaray have already made a £6m bid. But this figure seems to so woefully undervalue the Portuguese winger, that it doesn’t seem worth considering.

What’s most startling, however, is Manchester United’s counter-offer. According to The Daily Star, United have told Arsenal and Galatasaray that they would accept a fee of around £8.5m for Nani. This fee is based on quotes from Galatasaray’s chairman, Unal Aysal: “They want €10m (£8.5m). Because of this he is not on our transfer list anymore.”

This, I think, seems a little too good to be true. I find it difficult to believe that United would accept the same figure from Arsenal as they would from a club that plays in a different League.

Unless they’re looking to offer Nani to Arsenal as a thank you for gifting them the title last season (via Robin Van Persie), I’m sure David Moyes and co. would look to wring a few more pennies out of any potential deal with a Premier League club.

Whilst Sir Alex Ferguson seemed to have given up on Nani, I would be surprised if David Moyes isn’t interested in giving him a second chance.

Yes there’s no a certain amount of baggage that surrounds Nani (extended contract negotations, big demands and his frustrating playing style), he’s certainly better than Ashley Young and he’s better than the Antonio Valencia of last season. Wilfried Zaha may be coming in, but I think there’s still a place for Nani at Old Trafford.

Still, if United’s top brass are willing to let him go, Arsenal may profit. Yes, he’d pick up big wages, but this cost would be offset by a bargain price-tag. He’d offer the Gunners a bit of flair down the wings and some genuine crossing ability, two qualities the club currently lack.

Indeed, if Arsene Wenger plays his cards right, the Gunners could profit in a big way from Manchester United’s neglect.

What’s your take? Could Arsenal really snap up Nani from their rivals, Manchester United?

Of course nani would be a bargin at 8.5mil but I can’t see this materialising because utd will not sell to arsenal (not at that price anyway)
Also with only one year left on nani’s contract he may choose to sit it out and leave for free getting a better deal (signing on fee and wages wise).

I suspect theres a good reason he cant get in a relatively poor United midfield.

Please let this not be true. If arsenal sign nano, there could be no better evidence that Wenger has lost the plot and he must ho ASAP before he wastes all of arsenals precious money.

I have always thought that Fergie just didn’t like Nani sand the ManU fans (and Fergie) expected too much from him-to be another CR7 and that huge pressure weighed him down. Besides, he was never given enough chance to prove himself until Sir Fergie left. Worthy asset, should Arsenal acquire Nani.
