Paolo Di CanioWith relegation looming close behind this past season, Sunderland may look sell some of their talent, in order to improve the team all around. Simon Mignolet, Stephane Sessegnon, and Lee Cattermole are all likely to be sold this summer. But will they attract interest from top flight clubs in England?

Let’s start with the man who has already caught the eye of Premier League clubs. Simon Mignolet the 24 year old, Belgian goal keeper has been rumoured to have received interest from Liverpool and Arsenal. With Liverpool the leaders in the race, it is reported that they have agreed a £9 million fee [Editor’s note: this deal went official after this piece was written] for the keeper who kept 11 clean sheets in 40 starts this year. Mignolet will be gunning for the starting role, whether or not Liverpool decide to keep the legend Pepe Reina, who has almost 400 appearances under his belt for the Reds.

Stephane Sessegnon is just leaving his prime, at the ripe age of 29. This is a perfect time for Sunderland to sell for. They will be able to make some money, without having to lose one of their stars. As for his time in England, it may be coming to a close. It is rumoured that he has been receiving interest from China and that may be the spot for him to run out the rest of his career.

Lee Cattermole is an interesting player. His hard work as a defensive midfielder is under-estimated and his relatively young age of 25, means he has lots of football in front of him. Drawing interest from Cardiff City and Hull City, he will not be joining one of the best clubs in England, but he is a player who may be able to make the difference to a club fighting for their spot in the Premiership.

All 3 of these players will likely move this summer. In turn, Sunderland should be able to improve their squad and be vie for a spot in the middle of the pack come next year. It will be a grind without their flawless goalkeeper, but with good management comes victories. That is where the importance of the coming season will lie… in the hands of Paolo Di Canio.

What do you think? Will they be sold? If so how will these players fare at their new clubs?
