Is this £15m ace exactly what Spurs need?

PaulinhoThings have gone pretty well for Spurs so far this summer. Whilst there was initially some speculation regarding Andre Villas-Boas’s future at White Hart Lane, that now seems to have been put to bed. The Portuguese manager looks to be here for the long-run and we’ll get to see what he can pull-off when he’s got time to build a decent squad.

Better still, Tottenham have been linked to a number of interesting players. Not least among them is Brazilian wildcard Paulinho. Interestingly enough, the stories concerning the Corinthians star aren’t just rumours. The player himself has spoken of Tottenham’s interest:

“There is an official offer from Tottenham to Corinthians. But, as I did when there was an Inter Milan offer, I’ll sit and decide with my family before I make any decision. I will only do it after the Confederations Cup because it’s hard to deal with all these things.”

This, I think, should have Spurs fans very excited. He’s a dynamic talent, capable of mixing flair with craft and endeavour. He’s an excellent all-round midfielder who will have plenty to offer this Tottenham midfield. The BBC have even claimed a deal could be secured next week!

The player himself is being sensible. He’s not going to rush into any move and will probably wait to see if any other offers come in before agreeing terms with Spurs. It’s up to AVB, Daniel Levy et al to make Tottenham look like an attractive proposition.

This is especially true given the increasing interest throughout Europe in Paulinho. The Mirror recently claimed that Chelsea were considering hijacking Tottenham’s move (as they did for Oscar last summer).

Let’s hope AVB won’t let this happen. The 24-year-old could be available for just £17m. If Spurs can offer the right amount of wages and tempt him with the potential of Champions League football in the near future, they may just get their man.

Of course, if Chelsea genuinely are interested, they’ll be difficult to beat financially. Perhaps Spurs could pull the game-time card? The Blues midfield is full with talent, but there’s definitely room for a Paulinho type figure in Tottenham’s first-team.

Either way, Spurs have plenty of ways to entice Paulinho. Let’s just hope that AVB can drag the deal over the line.

What’s your take? Would Paulinho be a good fit for Spurs, or should they look elsewhere?

The “other clubs interested” have been fabricated by internet journo’s keen to get controversial headlines. No direct evidence of Chelski or Real Madrid has actually turned up yet. The only other team interested was Inter.
Its astonishing how these “chinese whispers” take hold and then get cut and pasted dozens of time, lol. News please – not fiction.

I think you need to check the media again, he has said more since these quotes that basically confirm his transfer to spurs. Also you’ve put £15mil in the headline and £17mil in the article. Nice try though
