Should Arsenal pinch this £15m man from their rivals?

NaniDepending on how you look at things, Arsenal are either really strong or really weak down the wings. When the likes of Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlaide-Chamberlain and Lukas Podolski are playing their best stuff, the Gunners have pace, threat and goals down the flanks.

Both Walcott and Podolski are good crossers of the ball and Oxlaide-Chamberlain has a neat change of pace that often bamboozles defenders.

But even the most blindly loyal Arsenal fan has to admit the following: the Ox has had a poor season. He’s struggled to make the team-sheet and has been unable to make a telling impact when he does get time on the pitch. It’s been difficult to see him go backwards and we can only hope next season is better for the young English forward.

As for Theo Walcott, well, we all know that he spends some games perfecting his ‘invisible man’ routine. For every game that he turns up to, there tends to be another where he doesn’t offer enough.

Lukas Podolski may well find himself playing more as a centre-forward. Finally, there’s Gervinho, Mr. Inconsistency himself. The less reliance Arsenal football club need to place in the hapless Ivorian, the better.

With all this in mind, it wouldn’t surprise me if Arsene Wenger looked to bring in another winger this summer.

Conveniently, The Star recently ran a story about how Arsenal were on the hunt for Manchester United’s tricky wing-man, Nani. Arsenal and Manchester United don’t trade players too often (Robin Van Persie being a notable exception to this statement), so should Arsene Wenger look to break the mould and pluck up the Portuguese talent?

I have to say, I have been fairly bemused at how Sir Alex has handled Nani over the last couple of seasons. Two years ago, Nani was one of the best players in the Premier League. That’s no exaggeration. The number of assists that he chipped in was unbelievable.

He’s been sidelined at Manchester United and it’s difficult to understand why. There’s a good chance it had something to do with contract negotiations, but if Fergie was willing to work with Rooney, why wouldn’t he do the same for a player with genuine flair?

As a result, Arsenal could profit. The club has money to spend this summer and may well be able to offer Nani what he’s looking for. And with a change of scenery, he may start providing the goods on a regular basis once more.

The Star claim he’s cost just £15m. For that money, Arsenal can’t go wrong.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal be in the market for Nani?
