Is the door now open for Manchester United to sign this Bundesliga star?

Robert LewandowskiIn the run-up to the summer transfer window, all we heard about was how Robert Lewandowski had his bags packed and ready for a move to Manchester United.

The Borussia Dortmund hot-shot is one of the most sought after forwards in Europe, but if you believe the media, a deal to bring him to Old Trafford has been wrapped up for a while.

Despite their claims, the transfer window has been pulled open and we’ve heard very little about Lewandowski and Manchester United. If anything, the speculation has begun to die down. Could the media have got this one wrong (perish the thought!)?

Perhaps David Moyes’ arrival at Old Trafford has sparked the realisation that United don’t really need another forward. Perhaps the ex-Everton man has taken the club’s top brass aside and pointed out all the other quality strikers that United already have on their books.

After all, Robin Van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez aren’t the kind of forward line that you’d typically raise your nose up at. Heck, we haven’t even mentioned the talented Danny Welbeck yet.

Still, a player like Robert Lewandowski is sure to attract attention, even if there’s no real pressing need. If United already have an ‘in’ for Lewandowski, I wouldn’t be surprised if Moyes was tempted by the Polish forward.

The Daily Mail recently carried some quotes from Borussia Dortmund’s CEO, regarding Lewandowski’s future: “Robert Lewandowski will definitely not make the switch to FC Bayern in 2013. That’s final. We have informed Robert and his agents now.”

That sounds like the words of a man ticked off that one of his star players (Mario Gotze) has already moved to Bayern Munich. He’ll be desperate to ensure that his side’s biggest goal threat doesn’t take the same route. This has opened the door to speculation that Dortmund would be more susceptible to Manchester United bid.

I’m sure United fans wouldn’t complain if the situation in Germany meant their side picked up a player who scored 36 goals in 48 games last season. The thought of him playing alongside Robin Van Persie (or Wayne Rooney, should he stay) is mouth-watering.

I’m sure Moyes has more pressing priorities, but this would likely be the most exciting signing of United’s summer. Let’s just see if he can pull it off.

What’s your take? Should Manchester United swoop in and pluck up Robert Lewandowski?

Lewandoski arrival at ManUtd will not only strengthen the attack but also weaken the opponent that would also want him in their team. We need him Moyes pls get him for us.

My take on this is that david moyes should really press in on this, luring this topclass striker lewandowski to united is not going to b easy but i jst want him to do everything possible to bring the lad to united.the name on every united fan’s mouth”LEWANDOWSKI”and with the likes of c.ronaldo, cesc fabregas or thiago alcatara we really need the united to splash a huge sum on the table to make opponents develop cold feet next season…up united.i know we can do this.

  • Essigreb says:

I cant understand why United should turn down the opportunity to sign a striker even better than RvP. IF he wants to come and the club is willing to sell is another issue…

  • ted says:

Sell Rooney. Buy Lewandowski. Rooney wnts to go, let him go. I dont wanna have a player who doesnt wanna play for us. If we sell Rooney for 50m and buy Lewandowski for 60m its still good business.
