Finally a Luis Suarez swap deal that Liverpool SHOULD consider:

Arjen RobbenEarlier this week, I commented on the rumours regarding a Real Madrid swap-deal for Luis Suarez. The deal in question proposed that Liverpool might consider accepting Jose Callejon and a heap of cash for their want-away Uruguayan forward.

This, of course, did little to excite Liverpool fans. Yet, I think most Reds have come around to the notion that Suarez needs to be sold this summer. After all, why keep hold of a player who’s unhappy and won’t be pulling in the same direction?

But, there’s no point in selling him if the Reds wont get a good price for him. Jose Callejon, for all his talent, is a Real Madrid reject. Sure he’s had some game-time at the Bernabeu, but he’s not really a hot-ticket player. He’s not somebody who excites fans. He’s no Luis Suarez.

If Brendan Rodgers is to contemplate  a swap deal this summer, he’ll need to make certain the player he brings in is capable of delivering the goods. The incoming player needs to be somebody who creates a bit of excitement and belief around Anfield.

So how about this: in an article titled ‘Bad man & Robben’ (not a bad effort!), The Sun claim that Bayern Munich are keen on signing Suarez and are willing to offer Arjen Robben as part of the deal.

This, at the very least, is an intriguing prospect. Robben is a world-class footballer. He’s technically, gifted, he’s tricky and he’s difficult for defenders to deal with. He’s been a hit at more or less every level and has already tried his feet in the Premier League with Chelsea (where he earned rave reviews).

Yes, he gets a lot of flack for his perceived selfishness, but I think this is a little over-played. Let’s not forget that Arjen Robben has been an integral part of a treble winning side this season. You just can’t pull off that feat when one of your best forwards is pulling in a different direction from the rest of the team. Robben is the real deal and deserves to be treated as such.

He’s also considerably more valuable that Jose Callejon. I’d argue that this is a deal worth considering, especially if Bayern are willing to add a little cash to the deal.

Suarez’s position is becoming untenable. This, I think is a great solution.

What’s your take? Would you swap Suarez for Robben?

  • Your having a laugh says:

Really you think Robben is worth a swap deal you are deluded. He is to old and to injury prone if the Germans are trying to get shut of him then that clearly tells you he is not worth anything to them.

    no and no

  • kengkinny says:

Like Callejon, Robben was mostly a substitute while at Real Madrid, and he was injured about 50% of the time while at Bayern. He is now approaching 30 and is on huge wages. It is rare that players with his skill set maintain their quality level beyond 30, and he could be our next Joe Cole. Robben would be a stupid move, IMO.

Gomez or Higuain would make much more sense.

Lets get Mario Gomez from Beayern or Higiuan from Real and some cash! That is a much better deal and still gives us world class goal scorers!

  • Johnathon cole says:

If Bayern were willing to offer robben & 25m in cash considering his age and the fact that he’s also very injury prone or if Gomez and a cash offer was submitted I think Liverpool could benefit with some power up front who also has good feet for a big centre forward. Perez (President of Mardrid) has already stated both strikers could leave this season. So why not ask for Benzema + 15m for Suarez, Benzema hasn’t had the best of seasons but is still rated at around £30m. I’m sure Liverpool could push through a deal with concrete discussions, and with Madrid Looking to replenish the squad this could be a possibility.

  • Will says:

I will be annoyed if Suarez goes for any less than 60 mil. 25 mil and Higuain will do….just

  • toekneem says:

Why does everyone keep coming up with silly swap deals.

If Suarez goes then I will be sorry, but he should only go if we get at least 40million.

Then we can purchase who we want , not someone else’s rejects.

  • Johnny says:

Harry, Robben is too old, troublesome, Injury prone, and expensive salary wise. How could you even think it would be a good deal. Also FYI, if you bothered to do any research, you would know Robben rubbished this rumour, when it was first spouted about 10 days ago, and pledged his future to Bayern, and you describe yourself as a journalist.
Well Harry, anyone who reads the Sun, should not associate themselves with articles on LFC. Those Lying Bastards at the Sun, dont know the truth, or care if their stories are truth or fiction. Have you ever considered a different career, surely there must be something better than quoting the Sun.

  • Akshay says:

Get Robben + gomez + 25m from bayern or get albiol + fabio contrao + alonso + higuain from real.
