Could Liverpool be tempted by this intriguing swap deal?

Jose CallejonWhat a whirlwind week for Luis Suarez and Liverpool. The Uruguayan troublemaker told the Press, ‘now would be a good time to move’, sparking a steady flow of speculation regarding his future. Fans got irate, the media got excited and Liverpool football club got mad.

A spokesman for the club said: “Luis Suarez is not for sale. Neither Luis or his representatives have communicated these feelings directly to Liverpool. The club remains supportive of Luis and expect him to honour his contract. The club will not be making any further comment at this stage.”

That’s pretty definitive stuff.

It’s not all that surprising that the club is rallying round their man. Despite Liverpool’s failings last season (and they were many and numerous), Suarez nabbed 30 goals in 44 appearances. He’s a unique talented, gifted with technical ability and a fair amount of craft and endeavour. Whilst his finishing is inconsistent, the fact that he ends up on the score-sheet so often is telling.

He’s established himself as Liverpool’s star player. A genuine game-winner, capable of rolling out moments of magic whenever they are needed. It’s hard to put a price on that.

But surely there is a price. Liverpool have told the world that Suarez is not for sale. But should the right offer come in, who’s to say they won’t change their mind.

After all, if Suarez is genuinely unhappy, there’s little use keeping hold of him. Surely Brendan Rodgers would serve the club better by selling his forward for a stupendous sum and using the money to strengthen the squad?

The Mirror claim that Real Madrid are looking to offer £20m cash for Suarez and are prepared to offer Spanish forward Jose Callejon as part of the arrangement. If this is true, we can only hope that Rodgers will look to negotiate more cash from the transfer.

But Jose Callejon would be a good addition for Liverpool. The 26-year-old made 40 appearances for Real last season, though many were as a substitute. He’ll be looking for regular game-time and a chance to re-find the form he demonstrated whilst playing for Espanyol. Liverpool could offer this.

They could also use his pace and penetration down the wings – he’d be a significant step up on the likes of Stewart Downing.

This transfer saga is likely to roll-on and on. Many different variations of this deal are likely to be wheeled out. If Liverpool do end up with Callejon and a truck-load of cash, however, they won’t have done too badly.

What’s your take? Would Jose Callejon fit in nicely at Anfield?

    Dean Jones,well put my man

  • Raan says:

Callejon is a good talented player but it doesn’t means Real Madrid can take our player for just £20m. As troublesome as he is, Suarez is worth at least £50m for his match winning capabilities.

  • Dean jones says:

Intriguing Offer ;-( MORE LIKE DAYLIGHT ROBBERY !!! But pricks like you love to see Liverpool FC taken for mugs.Probably a man utd or Chelsea fan ( Whichever, your a WANKER )

  • williams s. etete says:

nothing less than 50mill pounds that’s it if accept it then let them come with money to Anfield.

  • Joe says:

We’re all entitled to our opinions, but £20 million plus a sub who is pretty much Chelsea’s version of Kalou? Have some common sense please.

Liverpool are under no pressure to sell, and it’s realistic of us to expect at least £35-40 million, plus a player of real talent (Higuarin for example) or £50 million plus straight up. Liverpool are not the force they once were, for now, but don’t think the owners are stupid enough, not Brendan Rodgers, to play Madrid’s little games.

  • daboy says:

Callejon is valued at 10 million pounds and if you ever seen him play he is rubbish and has awful stats how he lasted this long at Real is amazing a slight improvement on Nunez remember him.
If Callejon is to come 45 mill plus him otherwise no fn way.

  • Mabvuto kennedy tembo says:

I would love to offer us £40m plus contrao i think it can be a gud deal..

  • kayboy says:

Luiz is not for sale,so dnt bother tellin us dis bushit stories.

  • Tony Davies says:

No player swaps just the cash only, got to be a minimum 50 million for Suarez no less.

  • Steve says:

Benzema and 15mil that’s more like it don’t want any of there shit

  • Victor, olusegun, Akainza. says:

I would like brenden Rodgers to keep suraze, honestly. Why cant maldrid bring christiano Ronaldo to Anfield? I guess this just a Rumor and nothing more.

  • agbomeji says:

suarez is a player of great quality that no football club can release easily

  • shafiek says:

    Tke higuaan n oezil

  • Maxmo says:

If swap is to be done then it should be Benzima plus £30 million otherwise Suarez is worthy £50 million which is good 4 BR to search on his own.

    • Alan Griffin says:

Karim Benzema is literally the laziest player in Spain! I don’t think there is any way Rodgers would take him to be honest. He wants to play a high line and press from the front Benzema won’t do that and as for valuation if Tottenham could potentially see a bid of 60+ million for Gareth bale there had better be a 7 at the front of any bid for Suarez and a whole hell of a lot of zeros following it.

  • adeniji says:

It’s a settled assertion that “you can’t force a willing master on an unwilling servant” and vice versa. Since Luis has publicly express his frustration for playing for our dear club come next season( while using the media as a cover up) then why should we not let him go?…..But Rodger and Ayre should ensure that LFC benefits from the transaction both in the short and the long run by allowing madrid to pay through their noses because, obviously Luis is our most prized asset.

  • Funnie says:

It will be best for LFC to hold on to suarez, but if he insist on going, lfc can cash on him for £60 million cos his fee must surely be higher than the price torres was sold & also close to Garret Bale’s present asking price. Henrik from S. Donesk a
nd Benteke will both adequately replace Suarez even with provide better options result.

  • Gaz hep says:

Liverpool should sell Suarez for £50 million and buy mkhitaryan, Aspas, Muriel and have cash left over the team would be…..
    Reina, Enrique, Skrtel,Toure,Kelly
    Gerrard, Lucas, Mkhitaryan, Coutinho
    Muriel, Aspas

With a class Subs bench ready for action.

  • Birikorang enoch says:

Even madrid use callejon for swapping they must pay 30million addition.

  • Ogbebor Blessing says:

Are dey tellin me dat callejon wat £20 nonsen dey should pay £50m 4 luis if dey want 2 get him, & dey should keep their callejon 2 their self.
