Could Liverpool be tempted by this intriguing swap deal?

Jose CallejonWhat a whirlwind week for Luis Suarez and Liverpool. The Uruguayan troublemaker told the Press, ‘now would be a good time to move’, sparking a steady flow of speculation regarding his future. Fans got irate, the media got excited and Liverpool football club got mad.

A spokesman for the club said: “Luis Suarez is not for sale. Neither Luis or his representatives have communicated these feelings directly to Liverpool. The club remains supportive of Luis and expect him to honour his contract. The club will not be making any further comment at this stage.”

That’s pretty definitive stuff.

It’s not all that surprising that the club is rallying round their man. Despite Liverpool’s failings last season (and they were many and numerous), Suarez nabbed 30 goals in 44 appearances. He’s a unique talented, gifted with technical ability and a fair amount of craft and endeavour. Whilst his finishing is inconsistent, the fact that he ends up on the score-sheet so often is telling.

He’s established himself as Liverpool’s star player. A genuine game-winner, capable of rolling out moments of magic whenever they are needed. It’s hard to put a price on that.

But surely there is a price. Liverpool have told the world that Suarez is not for sale. But should the right offer come in, who’s to say they won’t change their mind.

After all, if Suarez is genuinely unhappy, there’s little use keeping hold of him. Surely Brendan Rodgers would serve the club better by selling his forward for a stupendous sum and using the money to strengthen the squad?

The Mirror claim that Real Madrid are looking to offer £20m cash for Suarez and are prepared to offer Spanish forward Jose Callejon as part of the arrangement. If this is true, we can only hope that Rodgers will look to negotiate more cash from the transfer.

But Jose Callejon would be a good addition for Liverpool. The 26-year-old made 40 appearances for Real last season, though many were as a substitute. He’ll be looking for regular game-time and a chance to re-find the form he demonstrated whilst playing for Espanyol. Liverpool could offer this.

They could also use his pace and penetration down the wings – he’d be a significant step up on the likes of Stewart Downing.

This transfer saga is likely to roll-on and on. Many different variations of this deal are likely to be wheeled out. If Liverpool do end up with Callejon and a truck-load of cash, however, they won’t have done too badly.

What’s your take? Would Jose Callejon fit in nicely at Anfield?

Take higuain and ozil + 20mil pound at least…since Real willing to paid 80mil for average Bale….

    €25 million &xabi alonso and Higuain .

  • RAUL MYERS says:

I doubt that is a deal that would be accepted by Liverpool they would prefer the full sum of money as there are other prospects that Liverpool may feel to invest in

Suarez cost Liverpool 22.8 m pound if I’m not mistaken. His present mkt value is far more. Despite off-football incidents, he is one of the best in the world imo the best in EPL. He might have won the player of season award had he not had so much controversies. The price Real Madrid aired is only to test waters. Liverpool has also made a clear message that 50 m pound is what is required to prize him away from Anfield. Suarez’s U-turn surely have come as a huge surprise to Liverpool hierarchy. If Suarez really wants to leave, he will submit a transfer request meaning Liverpool won’t have to pay compensation money related to transfer. Liverpool will then eventually have to sell him. The price could be between 40m to 45m – Kop unlikely to get 50m or more. Only teams who could pay that sum is Real Madrid, PSG, ManCity. But he won’t be going to ManCity would he – after all that he said against british media and england lifestyle!! RM have some huge transfer targets to consider – Bale + keeping Ronaldo, & maybe even Cavani!! If they bring suarez then they wont buy Cavani. The question remains who among suarez & cavani is their priority target – i believe it is cavani! In case cavani chooses ManCity then they will turn their full attention to suarez, not before that.

If news are to be believed, Liverpool is already preparing for life w/o suarez. But replacing suarez is not easy, if possible at all. Simply because he offers much more than a straight-forward striker – much more! Liverpool sort of building the team around him, that’s how good he is! But if things come to that, Liverpool will need to buy & strengthen multiple positions to off-set suarez’s overall contribution. Even then it’d not be easy readily. But if right players are brought in then maybe this will improve the team overall and that’s what everybody would like. The likes of high quality left-back, a center-back OR two, a midfielder, right winger/midfielder, a proven/ maybe a world-class striker! With media reports, if they do get Digne, Aspas, Eriksson, Mkhiaryan, Papdupoulus, IIori, and proven striker maybe like Jackson Martinez/ Benteke/ Higuain/ Jovetic/ then i think Liverpool would have done magnificently well in this transfer and build a team trully capable of challenging top 4 and maybe even more!!

It’s hard to replace such a player but he isn’t whole team, as we showed that we can still play without through the last 4 games of the season. With Coutinho and Sturridge pairing up they looked very good together and they have only been there since January. If Suarez leaves, Coutinho can move into the middle who is similar in the way he makes things happen in and around the box as Suarez, he just isn’t as good at finishing.

Suarez is also a lot more selfish and has wasted many opportunities throughout the season when there were better options available. (I do love watching him though!)

We could try and get a world class out and out attacking winger for the left with the money and possibly a better forward than Sturridge as more competition.

One man doesn’t make Liverpool, doesn’t matter how good he is. We lost Torres and moved on and we will again. I don;t want him to go but if he does I trust the scounting network and Brendan to make the right choices in replacing him.

Recalls Jamie Carragher and converts him into a striker. If anyone knows where the back of the net is, it is most definitely Jamie Hoofer Carragher. His numerous own goals bear testimony to this fact.

I truly can’t put into words what stupid ignorant comment that is! cos i would be banned from the site! idiot!!

  • Timmy says:

30m plus callejon deal don. Callejon is a fine winger unlike lazy and inexperience stewart downing. Good deal

  • otunbawa says:

    Take £30million with alonso.

  • Bala Joseph says:

atleats 35m plus Xabi Alonso. if real want a direct player exchange, then they should take suarez and give Ronaldo. they are equally thesame.

  • Abraham says:

Suarez is not for sale.we want to play in the champions leauge and we need him not callejon

  • femi says:

i think liverpool is better without suarez, as i would be happy if liverpool sells him. suarez hardly scores match winning goals as the likes of Van persie, bale, falcao. rather he misses lots of chances that cost us lots of points last season, that was why the lads played that their last four matches well without him. including a 6 0 away win against newcastle.

  • Fitzy says:

Seriously don’t know how Suarez is so under valued and caljeron or whatever? Never heard of him, why get a no mark in as a replacement, and 26 years of age? No thanks, I’d take higuain and £30million plus. Any anyone saying Suarez is worth £50m and bale £80m, how and why? And just to make a point, regardless of suarezs off the field antics, he’s a striker and scored 31 goals in 42 appearances (or very similar statistic) banned 18 games in 2 and a half seasons, how many games has bale missed through injury in that time? I’d probably say the same if not more, so it evens itself out, as far as I’m concerned whatever bale is worth Suarez is worth more, and that’s not being biased or anything, just going off facts. 3 years ago ronaldo was worth £80m, buying him now, it’s about £120m, value and costs increase. Suarez is in the top 4 strikers in the world, messi, ronaldo, falcao and then Suarez and he’s still young and will get better. FSG would be daft to even consider £50, Torres was worth that 2 years ago and Suarez is far better and not injury prone.
