Hatem Ben ArfaNewcastle United may have a number of decent players in their squad, but they sure as heck can’t put a series of good results together. Alan Pardew just isn’t capable of getting the most out of the players he has.

That’s why his excursions in the January transfer window have had little effect on Newcastle’s results. The initial buzz that surrounded Pardew’s arrival has now worn off. It wouldn’t surprise me if some of the Magpie’s best players started to develop an itch that could only be scratched by switching clubs.

When it comes to Newcastle in recent years, the grass is usually greener on the other side. Just ask Demba Ba, who could pick up a Europa League trophy with Chelsea, despite starting the year with the Toon.

Whilst Newcastle have players like Moussa Sissoko, Papiss Cisse and Tim Krul amongst their ranks, the club’s most gifted star is surely Hatem Ben Arfa. The crafty French play-maker has some of the quickest feet in the Premier League. He’s a genuine flair player, with pace to burn, a bag of tricks and the willingness to take defenders on.

His unique talent has seen him score some absolutely remarkable solo goals in his time at Newcastle. But what would happen if he was playing in a midfield that truly bolstered and supported him?

What if he played for Tottenham?

The likes of Scott Parker and Sandro could protect him, whilst he and Clint Dempsey/Moussa Dembele linked up with the club’s strikers and helped break down defenses. Playing alongside footballers of this quality would surely cause him to up his game. In turn, he’d be able to offer Spurs a little more cut and thrust moving forward.

The Express claim that Tottenham are looking to ‘trump’ Liverpool this summer, by signing Ben Arfa before Brendan Rodgers can get his grubby paws on him. It’s even claimed that talks have begun between Ben Arfa and Spurs representatives. This, I would imagine, is pretty exciting news for Tottenham fans.

There’s no word yet on how much he’d cost, but given his injury problems this season (he has only made 19 appearances) I’m sure Newcastle would be more willing to sell than they have been in the past. Here’s hoping that Andres Villas-Boas looks to secure a bargain this summer.

What’s your take? Should Tottenham look to snap up Hatem Ben Arfa, or leave him for Liverpool?

What a load of garbage. Typified by the idea that Demba Ba “could pick up a Europa League trophy with Chelsea”. He’ll have to do it next season as he’s cup-tied for this campaign. But why let facts get in the way of a good story?
