Why Manchester United should swoop for this £10m bargain:

|

Phil JagielkaSince news of David Moyes’ Manchester United takeover has arisen, the Papers and online media have spent a good deal of column inches linking Sir Alex Ferguson’s replacement to his current crop of Everton players.

This, perhaps, isn’t surprising, particularly as Moyes has cultivated a fairly decent team over the last two-three seasons.

There are, naturally, some stand-outs. For a start, Leighton Baines is probably the best full-back in the Premier League. He gets his Beatle-cut up and down the flanks extremely quickly and has a mean cross on him. And then there’s his set-piece ability. Baines would be a real catch.

As would Marouane Fellaini, Everton’s big bulky Belgian. Fellaini uses his strength well, but he’s also a technically gifted player, who can play more or less anywhere on the pitch.

But the player Manchester United seem most interested in, is Phil Jagielka. The Sun are reporting that David Moyes is hot on the trail the Everton centre-back and are looking to secure a £10m deal.

He’s a Moyes signing, who arrived at Goodison Park six years ago in a £4m deal. Since then, Jagielka has gone from strength-to-strength, establishing himself as one of the club’s most important players. He’s earned England call-ups, doubled his price-tag and is now among the Premier League’s best defenders.

It doesn’t surprise me in the slightest that Moyes is considering re-treading old ground and signing Jagielka. The Sun even quote an ‘Everton insider’ source, who claims:

“David loves Jags from top to bottom. He describes him as ‘absolute class’. If there is one player from here he will come back for, it will be Jags. They get on great and David considers it a pleasure to work with him.”

Well, he must be an Everton insider, if he’s referring to him as ‘Jags’. It’s also noted that Moyes turned down a £15m bid for Jagielka two years ago. It’s clear that the two have a good relationship. ‘Jags’ is in his 30s now and may fancy one last challenge and a move to a big club. United, Moyes and ‘Jags’ look like a good fit.

And if Moyes can seal the deal for just £10m, United will get their hands on a real bargain.

What’s your take? Should David Moyes pillage his old club and bring Phil Jagielka to Old Trafford?

10 mil? Is it just his right leg? For England’s center back? Think of a number, double it, add 17million, pick up the phone and we can start to negotiate. Manu are loaded and have a new boss. Ker-ching as I believe the kids are prone to intone.

There is a big number of top class defenders that united can buy other than going for a 30 year old who might even be just good at a club in the class of Everton and not Manchester unite. Please Moyes spare us those kinds of signings.
