Could this £20m La Liga ace be the perfect fit for Moyes’ Manchester United?

Cesc FabregasWhat with all the column inches that Sir Alex’s retirement has attracted, Paul Scholes’ second retirement seems to have been swept under the rug, somewhat. Maybe we all said our goodbyes last time he retired, but my feeling is that the Ginger Prince hasn’t received the respect he deserves.

Perhaps a quiet goodbye is fitting for a man who kept himself to himself, but Manchester United are likely to struggle without their midfield titan, particularly if they don’t make any inroads in the transfer market.

Scholes has been Manchester United’s main man for so long, that it’s difficult to know what they’ll do now he’s gone. Whilst it’s difficult to turn your nose up at the likes of Michael Carrick, Shinji Kagawa and Tom Cleverley, surely United can do better in this department? It wouldn’t surprise me if David Moyes made a top quality midfielder his main transfer target this summer.

Adding a little strength and depth can only help Manchester United as they look to keep their title next season.

With this in mind, The Express‘ claims that Manchester United have ‘launched a stunning bid’ to sign ex-Arsenal star Cesc Fabregas, very interesting indeed.

Though Fabregas made his Nou Camp switch just two years ago, in a £35m deal, The Express suggest that he could be available for as little as £20m. That’s an extremely good price for one of the best midfielders in world-football.

United fans may remember Arsenal fans claiming, ‘he’s only 17, he’s better than Roy Keane’. Whilst these chants were never really proved true, this connection between player and club may add a touch of irony to an already intriguing transfer story.

At 26-years-old, Cesc Fabregas should be about to enter the peak stages of his career. He’s not a kid any more. The grace period is over.

That’s why it’s strange to see him struggling to assert himself at the Nou Camp. Yes, he has tough competition in front of him, but from what we saw of him at Arsenal, he’s capable of performing at the top level.

Maybe all he needs is a change of scenery. A new challenge at a new club. Manchester United could offer the Spaniard more football than Barcelona and Cesc would get a chance to prove himself once again.

Arsenal may not like it, but perhaps Cesc Fabregas and Manchester United are a better fit that most fans would like to think.

What’s your take? Should David Moyes pluck up this ex-Arsenal star?
