Christian EriksenFor the best part of a year now, Liverpool have found themselves linked strongly to Ajax’s super-talented midfielder, Christian Eriksen.

He’s been posited by some as a long-term replacement for Steven Gerrard and as a considerable step-up on the likes of Joe Allen. Whilst the Welshman has largely disappointed this season, the Danish ace has been as switched on as ever.

The 21-year-old uses the ball extremely well. He’s able to turn into space to buy himself time and then pick out a neat defense splitting pass. He also likes to get forward and provide support for Ajax’s forwards.

Given his performances in the Dutch Eredivisie and for Denmark over the last two-or-three seasons, it’s not that surprising that some big clubs are circling around him.

The 21-year-old looks ready for his big move. But where will he end up?

Liverpool’s Danish defender Daniel Agger has spoken out about Eriksen and his desire for him to move to Anfield next season.

Speaking to Danish publication Jyllands-Posten (via Sky Sports), Agger said:

“We want to play attacking football with the ball on the ground and that is exactly what Christian Eriksen is all about. That is the kind of player we need. If he plays for a team who want to keep the ball on the ground, then the answer is yes – due to his passing, his runs and his hard work.

He has to do what he believes is best and no one else but him should decide on his future. You must never listen to anyone else other than yourself.”

I have to admit, I’m with Agger here. Signing Eriksen could be a big step forward for Liverpool Football Club.

Unfortunately, Eriksen has found himself strongly linked to Borussia Dortmund (who recently lost Mario Gotze), but it’s not too late for Brendan Rodgers to step in. Eriksen has even noted that, ‘The Bundesliga has never really been my preferred choice’.

Unfortunately, the Reds don’t have a lot of money to bargain with. Whether they’ll be able to compete with Dortmund financially is anybodies guess.

If they do splash out, however, there’s no telling just how much value Eriksen will provide to this Liverpool side. The Reds need major inspiration and the young Danish talent may be just the ticket.

What’s your take? Should Liverpool battle it out with Borussia Dortmund to sign Christian Eriksen, or does Brendan Rodgers have other priorities?

Hate to put a dampener on this BUT we don’t need Eriksen as there are enough covers for this position either in place or coming along within the next 12/18 months. Money is needed elsewhere….

i think Br better buy tello as his price only £8.i dont think we realy need amf, bcoz if we have tello,BR can put coutinho play at the amf and tello will play at the left wing.Dont waste the $$$,bcoz CB is our priority…

I don’t mean to be disrespectful of everyone who has commented their opinions on the whole Eriksen saga, but you really do not have a clue what you are talking about when you say ‘we don’t need Eriksen’.

I’m sorry, but didn’t you hear the bit where people are saying he is ‘one of the brightest young prospects’ in European football. If you say we don’t need him, look at it like this. If god for bid, Gerrard or Coutinho or Henderson get injured, who do we have? Shelvey? An inconsistent midfielder that struggles at the best of times. In no disrespects to the man, but we need more than that.

Look at Chelsea. If Hazard is injured, they will put Oscar on. If Mata is injured, its okay for them. They will just put Lampard on. Whether we have players in that position is one thing, but whether we have decent depth in that position is another.

And I am guessing you have not heard that he is dubbed a long term replacement for Steven Gerrard? Eriksen will bring another attacking dimension to the squad, and lets be fair he is better than all our midfielders, except Gerrard and maybe Coutinho.

You are all fellow Liverpool fans id imagine, and we do need to unite as one. But it is kinda daft for someone to say we do not need Eriksen. And for the CB problem, we are offloading many players to raise cash. E.g. Carroll, Spearing, Pacheco, Coates, Wilson, Assaidi and possibly Skrtel and Reina. We wont be short on money, and even if we are, Douglas and Mobido Diakite are good centre backs for free.

It’s sometimes disheartening when our own fans don’t want to or don’t even stop and try to learn the essence of football superiority vs football mediocrity; the latter of which we are closer to now more than ever. So this is it simply: We need any player who is better than what we already have so that the team can improve. Get that point clear in your heads please my fellow Reds fans.
(As Dale posted earlier) – this is not disrespecting any other opinion at all – i’m just seeking to shed some more light on a point that we seem to miss for far too long. If we don’t get greater players we will continue to be without a PL title for years to come still(23 years now and counting).
Rodgers is a good coach so we need patience and some good buys in the summer and we will improve gradually. The speed of our revival will depend on the quality of players we bring in so the more we fool ourselves in thinking we have the squad we need is the longer we will take to reclaim the top spot in ENGLAND let alone the world.
Do you all realize that without the two excellent buys of Coutinho and Sturridge we could have even been fighting barely for a top ten finish?…Everton made it just above us in 6th spot this season and that says a great deal.
You probably all know this but let me say it anyway, depth is not your first eleven, it is your bench and those lurking on the reserves fighting to even make the bench. So for example, Jordan did so well today, i’m proud of him. That’s what we want, people to realize if they don’t step up, they can be replaced on the team sheet. We need players to pressure or even replace Lucas, Downing and even an Enrique sometimes…and we need more support for Gerrard if even on the bench (better than Shelvey please).
Also, we need another two goal scorers minimum – a target man and a midfielder with the special eye as well – so badly now that Suarez is still out for 8 more games next season. Eriksen could be that man, and Lukaku could be the other; who knows, but that’s the right approach.
Finally, we simply need to replace Carragher with class, not with a youngster but a proven stalwart. Skrtel is simply not ready to take us to a Top4 as far as i see.
