Arsenal target in ‘talks’: should the Gunners swoop in and snap him up?

Julio CesarWhen it comes to Arsenal, the Papers and every variety of online media seems to be linking the club to a healthy number of goalkeepers.

Who the Gunners will snap up (if anybody) is still a mystery.

One of the most interesting targets and most strongly linked players, is QPR’s want-away shot-stopper, Julio Cesar.

The Brazilian ace may not have enjoyed the best season with QPR, but he didn’t embarrass himself either. He still has a great reputation, plenty of passion and drive and can still save a game on his day.

At the very least, he’s several classes above anything that the Gunners can currently offer.

Best of all, Cesar hasn’t exactly been shy when it comes to discussing his future. Take, for instance, these quotes from Sky Sports: “I don’t know. There are indeed talks with some teams, but nothing definitive.

This is the Confederations Cup moment, I have to focus on doing a good work for the national team. I won’t name the teams as it would not be ethical since I am under contract with Queens Park Rangers. I let people responsible for my career deal with it.”

Could Arsenal be one of the interested parties? I wouldn’t bet against it. And wouldn’t Arsenal fans love to get yet another one over on poor old Harry Redknapp?

Julio Cesar is not a Championship quality player. He deserves to be playing at the highest level, not scrapping it out in the lower Leagues with an unmotivated side.

Arsenal on the other hand, is a side full of motivated players desperate to drag their team towards silverware. All they need is an additional bit of quality between the sticks (and upfront) to drag them over the finish line.

One thing that may stop this deal from going ahead is Cesar’s potential price-tag. Harry Redknapp and QPR’s top brass wont want their star keeper to go for cheap. They’ll be looking to get some money back to justify the heavy spending of last season. Arsene Wenger, on the other hand, isn’t best known for splashing the cash.

In that regard, it’s just not a good match. Footbally speaking, however, it’s a good move for the Gunners and for Cesar, who needs a change in surroundings.

But are Arsenal willing to put up the cash?

What’s your take? Could Arsene Wenger swing for Julio Cesar this summer?

Why will Arsenal go for Julio Caesar? Is he really that good? Check out his performances for QPR last season, he fumbled his lines many times. I will join those who believe that Wenger has lost the plot if he swoops for Julio instead of better alternatives who need to be paid for. Pay good money to get good quality.

    Yer, get him, cheap

  • rohan thompson says:

That would be a good buy for arsenal

  • James says:

You state he won’t come cheap but QPR won’t want to pay high wages to players in the Championship. A deal could be done. Personally I’d prefer Adler. He commands his area very well.
