This news will surprise absolutely nobody, but QPR’s ace goalkeeper, Julio Cesar has confirmed that he won’t be staying at the club.

He’s a player who’s clearly too good for the Championship and deserves another shot at a top club. Unfortunately, this hapless Rangers side isn’t likely to challenge for much meaningful silverware any time soon.

There’s a chronic lack of motivation throughout the squad. As a result, those players with aspirations will move on and those who want a big pay-cheque each week will stay. Cesar falls into this first camp – he’s a winner.

The Mirror carries quotes from Cesar, who is desperate to earn his place in the Brazil squad for next summer’s World Cup:

“It is confidential. My future today is a question mark. I have three more years on my contract, but the manager has already made it clear that it will be hard for me to stay at the club. I am happy he thinks that way, it is a sign that my work is being recognised. I dedicated as much as I could to QPR.

He [manager Harry Redknapp] had told me that I wouldn’t start any more games as I won’t be staying at the club. Now he has asked me to play the last game, and that makes me happy. I will try to play well and do my best.”

So that’s it. Cesar is moving on. But where will he end up?

The Mirror also notes that Arsenal have been strongly linked with a move for the 33-year-old. Given his situation, surely the Gunners should strike whilst the iron’s hot? If Arsene Wenger waits any longer, other interested parties are sure to get involved.

Arsenal’s current goalkeeping situation is pretty dire. None of the current crop of keepers can really be relied on to remain consistent over the course of a season. Looking at the likes of Lukasz Fabianski, Vito Mannone and even Wojciech Szczesny, all of them are apt to make a mistake when put under pressure. None of them have particularly safe hands.

Cesar, on the other hand, is an experienced international keeper. He’d be able to take the reins at the Emirates until Szczesny grows up and takes charge.

With his future up in the air and Arsenal in such desperate need, I wouldn’t be surprised if Cesar switched London clubs this summer.

What’s your take? Would you like to see Julio Cesar between the sticks at the Emirates?
