Could Manchester United really swap Anderson for this incredible young talent?

|

JAmes RodriguezWhen I first heard of Manchester United’s interest in FC Porto’s wing-wizard, James Rodriguez, it didn’t seem to make much sense.

He’s a player who has been linked to Manchester United for some time now and yet the Red Devils always seem to be spoiled for choice when it comes to wingers.

Sir Alex loves to bolster his forward ranks and always insists on having two on form wingers, cutting in, firing balls into the box and causing havoc.

Not so long ago, there was a good argument for declaring Antonio Valencia the best winger in the League. The former Wigan star seemed to have it all: a great change of pace, the confidence to take people on and the ability to deliver a killer ball. This season, however, Valencia looks like an altogether different player.

The same is true of Luis Nani, who two seasons ago was United’s best winger. His drop in form and Fergie’s lack of faith may even bring about the end of his stay at Old Trafford.

And with Ryan Giggs getting older and Ashley Young wildly inconsistent, perhaps Manchester United do need to take a look at bringing in a new wide-man. After all, there’s no guarantee that United new boy, Wilfried Zaha, will be able to have an immediate impact at the club.

What better way of reducing the pressure on Zaha’s shoulders than brining in somebody to share that burden? Especially if the player in question is capable of delivering the goods.

In this regard, James Rodriguez would be a good addition for Manchester United. The Telegraph notes that Sir Alex Ferguson is a long term admirer of the Colombian ace and could attempt to offload Anderson to FC Porto in an attempt to receive Rodriguez in return.

If Sir Alex could pull that one off, it would be quite something. Anderson hasn’t ever really managed to fit in at Manchester United. Beyond the odd flash of brilliance, he has looked lethargic, unmotivated and unable to play the role granted him.

On the other hand, you get the feeling that Rodriguez would jump at any opportunity to impress. He’s been compared to Cristiano Ronaldo and whilst comparisons like these can be big burdens for young players to bear, I’m sure Rodriguez will make something of himself.

He would help to keep Manchester United competitive and would probably the Red Devils with all the confidence they need to prevent City stealing their crown next season.

What’s your take? Should Manchester United try and seal a deal for James Rodriguez?
