Christian EriksenOne player who has been linked to Liverpool on a regular basis over the last 12 months is Christian Eriksen.

That name belongs to a 21-year-old midfielder who is currently plying his trade with Ajax. And it’s a name that I think we’ll be hearing a lot more of over the next few years.

Not just because he’s likely to be linked to a wide array of clubs. Mostly because he’s earning a real reputation. The Danish International is thought to be one of the best young footballers in Europe and is an all action midfielder in the mould of Steven Gerrard.

He’s got a great engine, runs for the entirety of games, has access to a wide range of passes and is a calm presence in front of goal. Whilst he’s not as good a tackler as Stevie G, he more than makes up for it with other aspects of his game.

On a technical level, he may even go on to surpass the Liverpool and England great. If he could do that, he would more than have made up on his potential and would surely have established himself as one of the best midfielders in the world.

With this kind of potential, it’s unsurprising that he has plenty of suitors. According to The International Business Times, Eriksen has been linked to Liverpool, Manchester United and Spurs. It’s my feeling, however, that he’d fit in best with the Reds.

Joe Allen has been a disappointment, Cristian Eriksen is the solution and long-term heir for Gerrard. He’s the kind of player who could provide Liverpool with a brighter future. He could go on to be a genuine Anfield legend.

The player himself seems uncertain about his future: “I cannot say what will happen next summer. I have started to prepare for the season with Ajax but I do not know if I will continue with them. I have 50 per cent chance to stay where I am.”

If I’m doing the maths right, that means there’s a 50% chance he’ll move on this summer. With Eriksen’s Ajax deal running out in 2014, his club would surely like to sell him now whilst they can still get a decent figure for him.

This could be Liverpool’s chance to pounce and secure a deal that would work out to be beneficial in the long-term. Talent like his is a rare thing, Brendan Rodgers should take advantage of the situation.

What’s your take? Would you like to see Christian Eriksen working his magic at Anfield?
