Is this man the marquee signing that Manchester United need to compete in Europe?

|

Zlatan IbrahimovicAnother season’s worth of European disappointment for Manchester United may have Sir Alex Ferguson weighing up his transfer options. Of course, this blow has been tempered by Premier League success (surely City won’t be able to catch them now?)

But despite Fergie reasserting himself on British shores, the feeling remains that European glory will require a little more investment. As things currently stand, Bayern Munich, Barcelona and (probably) Real Madrid would currently enter into a game with United as ‘favourites’.

That’s something that has to change.

But to get on that kind of level, Manchester United would have to spend big. This brings me to The Express, who claim that Sir Alex could target Zlatan Ibrahimovic this summer.

Yes, that’s right – Zlatan Ibrahimovic, one of the most arrogant, entertaining and damn-right talented strikers in Europe.

He’s also had a nomadic career, jumping from club to club and refusing to call any particular place his ‘home’. He left Milan last summer in a £20m move to PSG and he’s fit in extremely nicely.

The Paris based side may not be as glamorous as his former clubs (sides like Juventus, Barcelona, the two Milan sides and even Ajax) but it’s an interesting project and he’s currently being paid a fortune.

Still, despite the money, it has been suggested that Zlatan Ibrahimovic has lost interest in playing against Ligue 1 opposition and is ready to step back up to the ‘big Leagues’. And I can’t blame him – he’s the kind of player that should be playing regular football on the biggest platform available to him – the Premier League.

A move to Manchester United may at first glance appear unlikely, but given all the speculation surrounding Wayne Rooney’s future, it’s not impossible. Should Rooney move on this summer, United will have money to spend and will have cleared up a significant portion of their wage bill.

And I’m sure his exit would see Sir Alex go on the hunt for another top quality striker. Zlatan, would be the kind of marquee signing who could easily replace the English forward. 30 goals in 35 appearances for PSG more or less speaks for itself, but he’s also been a consistent goal-scorer throughout his career.

There may be some concerns about his age (he’s 31-years-old now) but he’s never been a forward who relies on his pace. He’s still got 3-4 years left at the top of his game and I’d love to see him in the Premier League.

Could United really pull this off?

What’s your take? Would you like to see Zlatan Ibrahimovic at Manchester United?

This won’t happen because Fergie doesnt like personalities and arrogance, we’ve seen it before with tevez, beckham and keane so this deal seems unlikely to happen. Also we have enough strikers and need to focus on replacing the ever aging Paul scholes also I feel that we need a new winger and cb.
