Can Arsenal REALLY afford to be in the market for this £40m talent?

|

falcaoJust about every Arsenal fan will be hoping that Arsene Wenger loosens the purse strings in a major way this summer.

After all, it’s been a season to forget thus far. Defeats to lower League teams have seen Wenger’s boys crash out of cup competitions. A 3-1 thrashing by the mighty Bayern Munich also saw Arsenal scurry away from the Emirates with almost no hope of proceeding in the Champions League.

It’s a little disappointing for your club’s season to be over in February, but at least in Arsenal’s case, it’s going to afford the top brass plenty of time for reflection. The Gunners have plenty of thinking to do and you can only hope that the people in power are already gathering the funds necessary to give Wenger a proper shot at silverware next season.

It’s not like there’s not quality in this Arsenal side. The Gunners simply need a few more world-class players to come in, flesh out the squad and provide stability.

Radamel Falcao is certainly world-class and if you believe The Express, he’s now a major Arsenal transfer target. Cue a legion of Arsenal fan’s quivering at the mere possibility. Falcao is one of the most fearsome strikers in European football, easily up there with the departed Robin Van Persie.

But can Arsenal, a club famous for their frugal spending really afford to chase Falcao, a man who would apparently cost £40m and would require £150k-a-week wages. Arsene seems to have learned that real quality doesn’t come cheap anymore and that signing a player who’s already fully-formed and an absolute world-beater may be a sensible move.

When asked about signing Falcao, Wenger is reported to have said: We can do it. If we find a player of top, top quality we will take him. We are in a stronger situation where we can spend some money. I’m not reluctant to do so. First of all, we only had money recently.”

So perhaps it’s not impossible after all. Whilst they’ve gone backwards footbally speaking this season, the Gunners have made some serious inroads when it comes to commercial deals and now have some real cash to spend.

If they’re going to invest this money anywhere, bringing Radamel Falcao to the Emirates probably isn’t a bad option. Yes, he’d be costly, but he has the kind of quality Arsenal desperately need.

Already have a pre contract with him.

Yes, bringing Falcao will be a dream come true for all gunner supporters but the main problem at arsenal is the line-up, Wenger has to change his mind set and take out some players from his usual formation: Ramsey, Arteta, Mertz, and Sagna need to be replaced. Playing Ramsey and Arteta in front of the back 4 was recipe for disaster. The major problem is the golly, get rid of him and get a reliable stopper between the posts and that should be task number one and replacing the other 4 players must happen to see any change in the team.
